I purchased a bulk box of UMC (Remington) 9mm ammo. I was separating it into manageable 100 round packs, when I came across this round. I would have thought the quality control for ammo would be much more strict.

I'd send a respectful email and pic to Reminton UMC showing what you have there. They may send you a voucher for another box. I had a similar occurance with Nosler bullets for handloading and they looked after me just fine.

Only one round was "not right"? You are very lucky!

I bought 10 x 20-round boxes of Remington UMC 6.8 SPC cartridges about 6 months ago.
A couple of months later, I decided to move them into 50-round MTM boxes to save on storage space.
This is what I found:
3 x crushed bullets (VERY oval)
1 x very badly bent bullet tip
5 x badly crushed shoulders
7 x slightly crushed shoulders
4 case sides with large "dings"/distorted cased
1 x missing primer (loose in box)
20+ cases with slight digs (acceptable)

That's about 20% reject rate - NOT GOOD!

My remedy: I ONLY load my own now.
Cost is typically $1.21 incl. shipping and taxes but every cartridge is PERFECT.
AND, I have a brass catcher so I can re-load almost every one.

imho, Remington UNC sucks...

UPDATE

I just wanted to give an update on the situation with Remington, and the damaged ammo. Back in May when this whole thing began, I was in contact with Remington via their US website and telephone number. I sent emails, pictures and statements as they requested. Things were moving along, and then I was away for 4 weeks, and kind of let things slide on my end. Recently, I reconnected with Remington USA about this issue. They told me since I was in Canada, I needed to speak with their Canadian customer service agency. This was the first time I had gotten this information. I basically had to restart the process with that agency in Quebec. Glad I did. After sending the pictures, I got a reply and phone call from one of their agents, who is sending me 2 boxes of ammo, to replace the few rounds of damaged unusable ammo that I got. All in all, I am happy with the outcome. So in my book Remington certainly came through, and hopefully they will figure out how such badly damaged ammo made it into consumer boxes.

Isn't that the new '9mm compensated' round I've been hearing so much about? Looks like you got a deal, if you only paid UMC bulk prices for it.

I, too, wouldn't fire it - it's too valuable as a collectible. ;)

Far more likely to have happened in transit than a QC thing, but who knows. Remington's UMC brand is their low end brand as I recall. Loaded by the thousands.

UPDATE

Today a package was delivered to me by courier, with quite a bit of replacement ammo. To conclude this, I am very happy with the response, and attitude of Remington, and the Gravel Agency. They took all the proper steps to verify the issue, and made it right. Got a couple range visits of ammo now. I am just glad that a company took the time to make a problem right. And to be honest, exceeded what I was expecting.
