I've lost my desire to build another gun. I can't believe it but it's true. The thought of it exhausts me. I really don't even have a desire to buy a gun for any reason. I've gone from thinking if guns and hunting, to thinking of using my guns to hunt with. I do have a couple of guns that I wouldn't change a thing about them, and that's new. Usually there is something I don't like so I sell to finance an "improvement". My wallet, however, assures me that this to will pass.

Anyone else find themselves happy with the rifles they currently own?

Chuck

I hear ya

Id rather whack some coyotes this winter with my 243 than send it to a gunsmith to have it rebarreled to 6BR :jerkit: and get it back in April

I got some stuff on the go (stocks, triggers, firing pins on order), and I need some scopes, but nothing urgent.

Chuck,

Here is some gun ###### to help you with your um......."Desire".

You will get over it!
I just came through a "dry" spell of nearly 3 (whole) years. :D :D

I've spent the last few years doing an awful lot of shooting and hunting instead of wasting time, effort, and money, on new rifles. It's almost as if I finally grew up!

NOT!

I fell of the wagon in a big way (is there any other?) and and have 2 sets of three matching rifles (2 sets of triplets :D). Not the cheap kind either! :sucks:

 Will post pictures when they are done!

I think for alot of guys it comes to a point where you've been there/done that and no longer see the need for stuff you really don't need.

I've downsized in the last couple of years from 25 to 10 long guns. I went for better quality, less duplication, better scopes. I still only hunt deer with one rifle anyways. ;)

Agree with Supercub....

There isn't much difference between many cartridges/guns unless you load for something very esoteric.

Shoot and load for what you own and like. It' fun!

Like indigestion, this too shall pass. As mentioned above, the desire will kick in to down size. Then you realize you no longer feel whole, and you begin to upsize. My friend treats me like I have a disease, and tells me what I have is an actual disorder. It's not natural to own, trade, buy and sell so many guns. He's right, I'm a gunnut! :p

I find myself more satisfied with my current crop than in years past.

Some of that is the realization that they all kill in a similar fashion and some is fact I now own much nicer rifles that suit me more than the ones I owned in the past.

Afflicted

At this stage in my life I still have the "desire" to buy something every week, but find I "talk myself out of it" if I have a few moments to think about it.
Also once my collection reachs 50 guns I feel the urge to thin it out a bit....strange, maybe because I'm nearing the 50 year mark!

IT IS....after 40 it takes no effort on the wifes part to get you shopping for nice big comfortable lounge chairs.
I am partial to recliners, myself.

Yup.

My heart doesn't race when I get the SIR catalogue any more, I don't have any desire to go to gun shows, except maybe to see some buds and look for cheap ammo, because I have two good rifles and two good shotguns and spend all my spare time hunting with them.

I'm trying to figure out what guns to sell now, not which guns to buy.

This is so true I have this same feeling! not 40 yet but soon lol! just been playing this game for a long time!
I have way to many long guns to use them properly, been thinking of selling off a few, and keeping 2 good hunting rifles, and a few 308 target rifles a 22 as well as a 17 hmr, and maybe a 300 wim mad longrange target gun.
Not 100% sure why, and would make my wife a happy woman LOL, and i would get the chance to learn more about my firearms I have.
I think supercub hit the nail on the nail on the head with about 10 guns! shotguns inthe bunch as well.

Gosh thinking of it, I own rifles in mostly all calibers to .458

I think I am only missing the 25 and the 404? from 17 to 458? Yikes.
And a few have not been shot.

You do get to that point where you question the amount of money you have invested.? and really for no good reason, a 800 dollar gun is only worth 800 dollars?

I find that I have enough guns to last and entire life time of reloading, hunting, experimenting and such. I don't need anymore and actually view buying guns as a waste of money:confused: I can do anything with dad's 30-06 and it would be no skin off my ass if I was forced to use it for the rest of my life.

Hunting is a passion of mine, guns are just a hobby.

You're not alone Chuck.

I have 2 rifles I use for most everything, a light 280AI and the M70 Norma. I also have a stainless Vanguard 257Wby for a beater/backup. And I have no desire to build anything else.

But what am I having fun with? In the past few months I have bought a handful of old 22LR rifles. An ancient M62A Winchester pump with hammer, a 50 year old Marlin 39A Mountie, etc. And I'm having more FUN with those than I ever would with tweaking yet another custom rifle. I can also buy 3-5 nice rimfires for the price of one of our customs. Dynapoints are chaper than TSX's too! :D

Hi Chuck,
This is the same thing that they all tell you to do with property when you grow old i.e. to "downsize".What you really need when you get old is to get 10 to 15 more acres on your place, and a bigger house (to better store all your firearms and reloading stuff).Once your relatives, your wife, your friends and your Doctor and everyone else tells you it's 'condominium time' it's soon gonna be lights out for you, permanently.Might as well phone the undertaker before you move and save yourself the trip.
What you need (and should want) are lots more guns as you grow older so that you can piss more Liberals off and continue the race to the end where the man who dies with the most guns wins.
Trust me,I'm old,and still alive,just.
Sandy Dunlop.

Another thing with me , and it may be true with some of you as well, is that I don't buy guns to HAVE them I buy guns to KNOW them. I like to know for my self how a Marlin Lever action works, what exactly makes a Mauser so great, what is so unique about an LC smith shotgun, why on earth dose my hunting buddy love his Remington so much..... I buy, take apart, look, try and use.

I still get itches that I sometimes need to scratch, but for the most part, I'm not that interested in acquiring and working up loads for yet another rifle...Everything that needs killing can be done with my 223, 300WSM or 375 Ruger.;)
