I was at the local gunshop today and the owner was saying that he thought there was a pretty good possibility that the current 'black' guns could be pushed into the prohib status in order to molify the opposition parties into allowing the long gun registry to be dismantled. What say you?

I'd say that the above quote is exactly why he said that. If you can afford an AR-15 (even just a stripped receiver), buy one. I don't think it will ever get easier. Keep in mind, though, that gun stores have been making dire predictions of prohibitions for years, and it seems to be mostly a promotional technique.
 
Very true. Thanks to the bunch of losers lately that feel a need to kill a bunch of school kids and/or adults on this side of the border and the other, maybe we should be playing it safe.

More crap! I think I'll phone my M.P. and chitchat a bit about de-restricting the multi-talented little friend of mine that I have to keep hidden away from all those man eating varmints or deer that so desperately want to feel the loving bite of wonderous little black beast.
 
yeah but wouldnt it be just confiscation and no grandfathering though? Or would they create another useless class of prohibs that we cant take to the range...

Really? And have the prices dropped to reflect the potentially reduced market? Or do you think they just want to have them sit on the shelf for a spell?

No 'black' guns on their shelves. Pure speculation on their part, unless they know something nobody else seems to know. Food for thought possibly.
 
A certain Edmonton Gunshop said the same thing back in 1997.

Now it may happen but I think it's a way to get you to panic buy and increase their sales.
 
Not that I am the PC type, but does the term "grandfathering" actually appear in legislation?

How ###ist!;) Maybe we should demand they change it?;)

As mentioned above, the way the current legislation is worded, there is no grandfathering possible for any new prohibs. If the gov't of the day want them banned, they are simply banned. However, with no provision for grandfathering, the gov't is liable for compensation.

The only alternative to them would be to replace the current firearms act with something more to there liking, and the chances of getting a complete re-write through the house is slim.
 
One issue I see IF they prohibit black guns, is that they will probably put each variant of black gun into its own class. which means just because I get grandfathered for the ar doesn't mean I'll be able to go out and buy a mini14.
