SO over the winter I am building a custom remington 700. The build will be chambered in .300 win mag and I am looking for a scope that wont break the bank to stand up to the recoil of the .300. I was thinking something along the lines of a vortex viper in 6.5-20x50 but am open to all other options. Ive never had a .300 shot them lots but just looking for some good glass that will withstand the recoil.

Starting with a Leupold VX1 and working up to the VX 6 .
Good Glass, easy to find and warranty is in Alberia if one ever needs it.
Closer to me than Ontario or Quebec, but maybe the other way around for where you are located.

Ive seen Bushnells,Tascos and Millets fail on heavy caliber rifles.I have a Leupold vx3 on my 300 win and never had any problems.I also see countless others here recommending Leupolds for use on heavy recoil calibres . Warranty is bulletproof,I sent a scope in I severely damaged to to my own stupidity, had it back looking brand new in under 2 weeks from Quebec.So....I would say Leupold.

Suitability for purpose is the big thing. I've got Leupolds in VX3s in 3.5-10, through 4.5-14 (1" and 30mm) and Mark 4s in 4.5-14 and 6.5-20 on .300s. Nothing breaks, but some of the choices would be inappropriate on some of the rifles.

If you are putting together a long range rig I'd just get the appropriate Mark 4 and be done with it. I'm guessing your application by the power range you mention.

Had a Burris fullfield 3-9 with posi-loc on my 300 WM for over 15 years. Shot a box of 180 gn every year and a few moose and never had to adjust the scope once! Still have the rifle but sold the Burris and bought a Zeiss Conquest 3-9 as it suits my vision better.

Vortex viper hst 4-16x44 it is. Held on with vortex PMR rings should stand up to anything I throw at it. And vortex warranty even if I break it send er back and get another one.
