Both my wife and I are new hunters this year, got a deer tag just in case, but did not expect anything since we are hunting by road as we have a couple young ones, so its close to home and going for grouse by truck, but you never know. We spent 3 weeks up in region 8 driving the back roads, got a few grouse, but did not see one deer, not even a doe.

We get back home to the coast and sit out on the front porch having a drink once the kids are in bed and my dog starts acting up, something is out in the dark. Sure enough here comes a doe and 2 grown fawns which have been hanging around the property and seem to be sleeping here most nights this past summer, they were maybe 10-15 feet from us, not scared of people at all, munching on my nice green grass doing their own thing. They are suddenly startled and looking in the direction where they came from, and not 5 minutes later a nice big black tail buck comes out and is standing there staring at us, and back at the doe wanting a piece, probably spent a good 20 minutes in my yard checking out the doe and fawns and vise versa.

All the driving we did and not one deer, then we get home and its 15 feet away from me in my front yard! I swear to god these buggers are smarter than alot give them credit for. As much as it pissed me off seeing a good amount of meat so close to my freezer, it was still a pretty cool experience to watch unfold. I kind of felt like leaving a trail of carrots into my garage!

yep, and nothing is worse than being brought up in the outdoors all my life and seeing grouse all over the place, literally could walk up to them and kick them in the head earning the name "fool hen" and then all of a sudden you have a shot gun and they get 100x smarter.... all of a sudden the fool hens are outsmarting me, talk about a hit to your manhood when family asks how it went.... All in good fun though, in all honesty our first outings this year were a blast, family memories which will last a lifetime.

It's the moose that are making a fool of me this year!!

When I have a LEH Bull draw....where are all the bulls??? Nowhere to be seen.

Cow after cow, but no bulls :(.
Ah well, I have taken enough moose in my hunting career to be able to take a miss one year.

Still have Muleys and Whitetails in Peace River country after Nov 1.

Regards, Dave.

I felt the same early in the season (finally got drawn for a bull) hitting up all the good areas and not seeing one damn moose. Then the one I did find was when I was out in the middle of a slash in the open with no cover. Once he spotted us it was over. Finally got a young bull on the way to check out another area right at first light. Its still pretty warm up my way though, hopefully they'll start moving around more for ya when things cool off. Stinkin swamp donkeys...
