I took my 6 year old out grouse hunting for the first time. I let him shoot at a few, but he missed (he's pretty small and can't hold the rifle very well, even with Dad helping)

Dad did manage to get a few with the 12 gauge. Here's some pics I took with my cell phone

deano....lmao...that boom sticklooks a tad to big for the son...spend a few bucks and pick him up a wee 410..
nice to see a father and son out hunting though..
thanks for sharing the pic,s

I let him shoot with a 22 rifle. He's still a little bit too small for a .410. I'mm thinking when he's around 8 I'll let him have a go with the .410/ As it is, when I say I have to help him, that's with a 22.:D

I let him hold the 12 gauge for the picture only. It's bigger than he is.:D

get him one of those thomson mini single shot .410's

That brought back a lot of memories:) I was his age when I knocked over my first ruffy with dads cooey .20 gauge single shot. Still my favourite chicken gun:)

I remember him holding the forestock for me and being ready for when I got a boot from the gun. something I will never forget:D I used to call ruffies mohawk birds, LOL

Great story Deano. Thanks for sharing. Looks like your son (and you) had a great time. Also nice to see that our hunting heritage is getting passed to the next generation. Our sons and daughters are the future of the sport. Pass it on!

Nice shooting Dean jr! Man, he's the spittin image of you!Was that down south or up north? There's 2 feet of snow north of the peg now!

Good job, Deano. We all need to get our kids involved.... and our neighbors, coworkers, neighbors kids...

Besides what's good for the sport, you know some of his most treasured memories will be those days in the field with Dad.

Got to be 12 here in Alberta, Cant use a rifle till you are 14.
Sad, I cant wait for the day that my kids turn 12. Till then I have a well trained retriever.. Just got to get him into the water....

.410s? why the hell would anyone ever let a begginer use a 410? they are a pain in the ass I use to use a 410 but you needed to be with it 10 yards of the bird to do any damage enough to kill the bird. 20 ga is good for the young lad or get him a little .22 or something like that.
