So I got myself Lyman sonic case cleaner which I intend to use in combination with my tumbler, I want it to primarily help me out with cleaning the primer pockets and inside of casings, something the tumbler can only do to limited degree. Sonic cleaning solution, as I have noticed is actually not cheap at all so I looked up u-tube and got bombarded by all kinds of home recipes, which chemically don't make a lot of sense to me due to ingredients that effectively cancel each other out. What do you guys do for home made solutions if at all, something that actually gets the job done using components readily on shelf of home supply store or better yet, already on shelf at home. Thanks for any useful input.

If the ultrasonic cleaner works as its supposed to you won't need to use the tumbler. I have only wet tumbled my brass, and while the primer pockets are not spotless, they have always been more than good enough to reload. I don't ever remember a failure.

Ultrasonic Cleaner Solutions

For general parts cleaning in a ultrasonic cleaner you can use Ed's Red or the citrus based cleaner mentioned above. Also recommended are:

Straight odorless mineral spirits
1 part Simple Green and 6 parts water (Don't use on aluminum)
1 part Dawn detergent (without the bleach) and 4 to 6 parts water.
Note that with the exception of Ed's Red these solutions will remove ALL oils and grease so you MUST coat all parts with a light oil after cleaning and drying.

If you check the directions on the cleaning solution you will likely find its mixed with water.

I though Hornady solution was expensive. Until I looked at the back of the bottle and realized it's mixed 40:1. So 40 liters for $30 or so.

I have a Lyman unit as well.

What provides the most consistent results for myself is a tablespoon of dawn and a tablespoon of Lemishine crystals. Run the solution fo 3 x max time with heat on then add the cases. I read somehwere that the solution itself needs to be absent of "air" for best results. Between 50 to 75 308 sized at a time. 3 full cycles.

The cases i am speaking of is my reloads, not range pick ups.

Hope this helps

vinegar is too strong

I do one part vinegar to roughly 2 or 3 parts water, and a drop of 2 of liquid dishwashing soap. They come out great, but by ultrasonic cleaner is quite subpar. One of those tiny, jewelery or dentures ones I spotted at the thrift store and picked up for 12 bucks. I can fit about 25 8x57 casings at a time. 3 minute cycles are annoying.....

I tried to find the lemmishine but couldn't get it anywhere, seems like something on American market only but there must be something just like that on Canadian market, just under different name. Any ideas ?
Thanks guys for all the info you posted here.

went through two batch this morning, with dishwasher soap, worked, but I guess it could be improved. Primer pockets weren't all super clean, but good enough for now as I'll have to full-length resize anyway. Not much difference between 10 or 20 min (at 50decC)

Get it at Canadian Tire or Walmart.

%80 water
%20 white vinagar
4-5 drops soap
Brass is added to heated solution for @ 50C for 30 minutes.

Lube, resize and trim
Brass back into Ultra sonic for 30 minutes to remove lube.

The dry Brass is clean, but has a very dull sickly look from the vinegar.
Polish in vibrator with corn cob c/w drier sheet cut in strips 1/2"x3". The dries sheet collects all the frigging corn cob fines.
Brass looks shinny and new after an hour or 2 of polishing.
