The Kuai Li Rifle! Ｍade in 1890 by Chinese Qing Dynasty this is the 1st modern rifle they designed and manufactured following the design of Steyr 1888Mannlicher, straight pull rifle, CAL in 7.62x55R. Total made about 10600pcs for short time and then Chinese decided buy 1888 comminision rifle and copy it.

They fire 303 British BLACK POwder

They actually fire 7.62x55r, a proprietary Chinese domestic cartridge. Similar to .303, but not.

Glad the rifle went to a good home, I enjoyed having it but it's better off in a Chinese firearms collection.

It actually fired smokeless powder, black powder was used for training, and the smokeless powder ammunition kept in storage in case of a war.

Tks! You are correct!

江南制造局 = Jiang Nan Machine - Manufactureing Bureau
快利 = Kuai Li (name of this rifle, means fast and sharp)
乙未 = 1895 in Chinese Year name
造 = Made

China Qing failed in First Chino-Japanses war (War of Jiawu) in 1895, result China lost TAIWAN and China Nationalist start their revolution plan.

The years repeat themselves every 60 year cycle. So you have to look up what all the years are for 乙未 and choose the one that makes the most sense. Clearly 1835 and 1955 wouldn’t make sense.
