Sorting by headstamp?? 38 Special

I have obtained a quantity of 38 Special nickel and regular brass that has a variety of headstamps- Winchester, Federal, PMC etc. Some is marked +P and some is not, even in the same brand (Winchester). Some say it is necessary to sort by headstamp as in rifle reloading, some say not. My application is mild cast loads in S&W snubbie. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Don't waste your time except for sorting brass from plated. That's all I do.

That's all I do as well. Certainly though you should examine your brass to ensure it is free of cracks.

Unless you're engaging in high-level competitions and every fraction of a millimetre counts on the target, don't even bother thinking about sorting brass.

Agreed.

Also, the only difference between +P brass and regular brass is the "+P" marking.

I'Ve tryed target loads from identical cases and mixed lots and they all group equally well in my 586. I could not tell any difference from one brand to another.
