Anyone know were I could pick some up? Winnipeg SIR/Cabella's and WSS don't have any - both are backordered, and don't know when it may show up.

Hey Bruce, the .280 and .284 are not at all the same. For example, the .280 fires a .280 cal bullet while the .284 fires a.284 cal bullet. People often also confuse the bullets used in 7x57, 7-08, 7 mm Rem Mag and all those. But it's very simple. The 7 x 57 bullet is 57 mm long. The 7-08 bullet on the other hand is only 8 mm long. The 7 mm Rem Mag shoots MAGNUM bullets. And of course the 7 WSM shoots SHORT magnum bullets.

There you have it. Right in the cartridge name is the simple way to determine which bullet to use. No need to thank me for this advice, it is in the public interest.

:D

7mm Rem. Mag, 7mm Wtby, 7mm STW, 7mm RUM, 7x61, 280Rem, 7mm WSM, 7mm RSAUM, 7x64, 7x57, 7mm-08, 7x30 Waters, 7mm Dakota, 284Win, all shoot the same diameter bullets.

Go back and re read your source, or where every you thought you heard this dribble.:shotgun:

Well, hell. If they all shoot the same bullets, why all the different cartridges? Might as well just have a 7mm SAUM or WSM....;)

Thanks for clearing this matter up for us.

Doug, I knew someone would fall for it, and before I got my first giggle out, there it was in spades!
Cheers, Bruce

Even the smiling faces weren't enough - sheesh. Now we have guys out looking for 2" long and "magnum" bullets. Shame on you Doug. ;)

Anyways 284 Win brass, like 348 Win brass is not produced regulalry, so there are periodic shortages. They are both used in greater numbers in converted cartridges than they are in their original chambering, e.g. 6mm-284, 6.5-284, 7.5x55, etc., and the 348 is the basis for dozens of obsolete military rounds. The 6.5-284 is very popular, but now brass is being made for it as it is for the 7.5x55, so the need for 284 for conversion has diminished.

I'm sure you'll find some, but when you do, I'd stock up so you don't get stuck next time.

Jeez, I set a pit trap without even knowing it, figuring that EVERYBODY who reads stuff in a thread like this would understand a joke.............

Glad you got a giggle, Bruce! :p

And back to Steiner, sorry for the hijack, but all of this traffic might actually turn up somebody (like Dan) who actually has some spare brass for you! :D
