Hey folks.

I'm having a heck of a time tracking down 5-40 + 6-40 thread screws, plus some metric taps. Most local shops tell me they're too odd to stock, and even Brownells stopped selling them. I did get some 6-40s a while back at a local machine shop, but they've since closed up.

Is there a place in Toronto or large city that I can contact for a good selection of screws? Heck, I'll even order across the border if I have to...(but would rather not)

Thanks!
Sean.

funny you should ask. I'm going up tomorrow to pick up some #6-40 undercut head screws I ordered from them last week & some #6-40 grub screws to fill the holes for a front site on a rifle I'm doing.
They stock some (I picked up some allen head in #6-40 x 1/4 long).
I bought a #6-40 bottom tap from them as well.
These folks know their stuff and if it's got threads they can get it or it doesn't exist.

Sight mounting screws are almost invariably 6-48 or 8-40 if larger in diameter. 5-40 and 6-40 screws are used extensively in modern muzzleloading gunlocks. w ww.trackofthewolf.com and w ww.dixiegun.com will have screws and taps in 5-40 and 6-40. Brownells has taps and dies in these sizes. Just received some today.

That answers a question I had. :)

Brownells also has 5 x 40 screws....... I don't understand your comment about Brownells not having them.......

Fillister head screws P163 CAT #59 {in the white}
080-050-540 5-40x1"
080-050-640 6-40x1"

080-050-000 kit with 12 each, 240 total screws

I had to use up my 8-40 screws for a buddy so I was looking anyway.

Cheers

My apologies guys, I should have been more specific.
The 5-40 and 6-40 screws I need have a tapered head - I use them for mounting C-Mores and Alchin mounts on race pistols.
I don't care if they're slotted or allen (although allen is prettier).
Fillister head and button types won't work.
Brownells don't have 'em. (they did a few years back, but not anymore)
Here's a pic.

PS - Striker - did you get the broken tap removal tool too? These taps are sooooo easy to break....;)

Sean they carry the allen head ones, that's what I picked up and what we ordered.
Nope, didn't think about the removal tool. We got the tap to clean up threads, not cut new ones. Fingers crossed!
