Hi - I've been searching the web and can't seem to find a source for one of the round, handheld wind drift estimators - the type that has the flag pictures on it, you rotate the card to match the flag picture and the wind direction and it gives you a starting point to set your windage from?

Any ideas?

Cheers

Ron

angle of flag divided by "X" = wind speed.
a ballistics calculator will help you with the rest.

but how is this card thing going to help you in the real world?
pay attention to your shooting environment and learn from it.
IE:
is the wind moving tall grass? is it moving the tops of tall trees? do you feel it on your cheek? which side is it blowing from? is the wind stirring up dust?

nature is filled with "range flags".. we just have to pay attention to them.

Wind Calculator

This tool is made by A. J. Parker Ltd and is not available to my knowledge in Canada.

You may try to get one from someone going to Bisley (next year...)

This is for .308 and it is a good starting tool for your first sighter in Palma type match.
It also lists the various elevations and come ups for .308/155.

Obviously when you refer to flags, it means you would be target shooting. If you shoot target at Connaught for example, flags may read different from the flags on this tool as the flag size and material(shorter and lighter) is different from the Bisley ones.

I was not happy with the ones that already existed, they are not accurate enought, so I made one using my ballistics

Also included my drop chart at the bottom
