Does anyone know where one might get some heavier-than-150 gr BTSP bullets in .277 diamter? I know that Speer makes a Grand-Slam in 160 gr but it's not exactly a ballistic champion.

...............i kind of think your looking to do something with the .270 it wasn't meant for.

.........I feel 270 and heavyweight bullets don't belong in the same sentence. But thats just me.

Unless he's shooting one of the .270 magnums. A heavy bullet in a .270 Weatherby, or 270 WSM wouldn't be a bad thing for larger game.;)

I'm pretty sure that Nosler makes a 160gr Partition. It's pretty heavy for the caliber and would be a great moose bullet, but may not be as efficient as the lighter bullets for long range shooting. Sorta like shooting a 220gr bullet from a 30/06 :)

Hawk and Smith-Rite make 180gr bullets. Barnes used to make a 180gr as well. Maybe Wildcat bullets in Alberta make them too.

Pengfire,
find out what twist you have in your rifle,no sense sourcing bullets that won't stabilize!!!! Then, consider horse power requirements, have you got enough case capacity to push a bigger bullet to effective velocity's and finally has your rifle got enough space in the mag,or will the bullet have to be seated so far in the case that useable case capacity is tied up.
As far as your question, yes bullets such as the ones you seek are out there!

I agree,if you think that you need a heavier bullet, you really need to increase the bore size.

Most 270W are 1 in 10" twist...the Nosler 160gr stabilizes just fine with this twist. I currently have 3 rifles chambered in 270W and exceeding 2800 fps in any of them with the 160gr Nosler is no big deal. Never seen or tried the Speer GS.

The 160gr. Nosler makes a very good all around big game cartridge. I also shoot 338W, 35W & 350 RM, 8x68s and 375H&H fwiw...the 270W with 160 Noslers does everything up to moose as well as the others. If you had to have one gun this would be a great choice... but not as much fun as lots of them!!!!!!!!!
