Was going to order one from SIR and thought it possible they may be out but it worse than that.

They said they don't stock them, they place orders. She said minimal 6 month wait. If it goes later than that I wouldn't have it for my elk hunt. I'll look for another source but their price will be hard to beat.

Anyone know who may stock them?

why shoot kimber when you can build a custom for less $

How good of a custom could one build for SIR's price of $1300 if they were in stock. Find rifle, order barrel, order a good stock, trigger, and labour. It adds up quickly.

I agree if I have to pay the usual $1700 though.

wholesale sports in lethbridge just got a big shipment of kimbers in 2 days ago

Wholesale in Calgary got a bunch as well. I saw some really nice wood on a .270 WSM and a .325.

Funny....
Calgary just told me they are still waiting.

Calgary does have a bunch in stock. I've seen them show a bunch to customers, They also have pistols on display. I think that they may not be registered to wholesales inventory yet, but should be in a couple of days. A friend of mine put a deposit on one. The telephone order people may not know they are there, but after you call the 800 number ask for the gun counter.

Talked to SIR yesterday, they had them on the rack... something isn't adding up!

The kimber appears to be a great value, particularily the Montana. Furthermore, there is no wait involved (if they have them in stock). I'm actually quite curoius about their Pro Varmint... too bad it has a blued action!

However, $1300 still gets you DAMN far into a great custom rifle:

$500 Stainless Action (Your Pick... Rem 700, Win 70, Ruger...)
$350 Stainless Gaillard Barrel
$125 True Action
$200 Chamber
$250 will get ya a Rem Takeoff (HS Precision/B+C VSSF handle, a VLS Laminate Handle, TI stock, Mtn Laminate, or LVSF) All of which are in the same league as other factory handles and a great stock for a cheap build.

That puts ya at $1425 for a rifle that is guaranteed to shoot the lights out... add a few more dollars ($350ish for a high end aftermarket African Walnut stock (McMillan, Bansner, Wildcat, Borden....and $150 for flutes....)).

As for triggers, I've yet to see a Factory Rem/Winchester trigger that could not be tweaked to perfection with little effort.

You put up a good arguement there 280.

You get a better trigger and a fluted barrel and new higher end stock with the Montana and hopefully the rifle in your hands right away. Probably...maybe lighter than you could get for your estimate too.:D

That is some crazy run around that SIR and WS are giving me. If you call around one shop contradicts the other.

I found my rifle btw. They only have 1 though.

Who did you talk to at SIR?

I also called SIR early this week (tues) and they do have some Montanas on their shelf. The phone lady's know nothing you need to talk w/ the fellows behind the gun desk.
They had a Montana in 7mm wsm and one in a 300 win mag. The guy also said 5 300 wsm were ordered and should be in Winnipeg in 4 months.
