Just ordered me a VZ 858 from FF and it will be my first 7.62x39.

I found that in trying to source ammo to feed to beast that the non-corrosive is way hard to find in anything more than a 20-rnd box.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can get bulk/surplus non-corrosive? What is the best ammo to run through this thing?

I know there's a lot of 858s out there so was wondering what sort of experience everyone has had with different ammo.

Thanks!

I'd venture to say anything truly "surplus" will be corrosive. Bulk NC ...... try Norinco or MFS ....... still steel case but will be NC. If you have big bucks Privi Partisan and I believe S&B make soft point brass cased reloadable NC!

I would love to find a good source of non corrosive in the $0.30-$0.50/round range.

My interest isn't for target practice while times are good, instead my purpose in this is to put rounds away in case times get bad. Right now I can calmly clean my rifle at home in my garage. If we hit a WROL state it'd be nice to not be running corrosive ammo.

I am a Prepper though so I look at things a little differently ;)

I think Barnaul (spelling) might be a fairly cost effective option if someone could bring in a large shipment.

I am also looking for Barnaul but it is impossible to get. Corrosive ammo has been used in conflict for hundreds of years. It won't melt your gun like sulphuric acid. Although I do also like to shoot non corrosive.

My source "the local Canadian Tire" is finally out of MFS FMJ after some fella came in and bought their last 60 boxes. They stock it back in a week. Check your local CT if it sells it. Best price per box I've found off/online.

If things got bad enough that you couldn't afford yourself the time to clean a barrel, I'd be happy shooting anything that worked, corrosive or not.

Hey, I'm not trying to be snide, I just don't agree that NC ammo is a must for when times are apocalyptic. Of course it would be nice, but I'm sure in a situation like that electricity would be nice as well. I've taken off on trip for as long as 4 straight months, zero electricity, so I'm sure I could get by defending myself/foraging with some crummy corrosive ammo. Then I would climb a tree and run a few patches down the barrel. I might whistle or sing a little song, too - climbing trees can be fun.

From the photo of the cases of the ammo at Things Military, I would not be surprized if that stuff is really corrosive. It has the same numbers on it as the infamous corrosive ammo from Lever Arms that was touted as non-corrosive.
