I bought a used Rem 700, and it came in a B&C stock with a Kwik Klip detachable magazine conversion. I'm not really loving the kwip klip though, its supposed to be a 4 round magazine but the 4th round is really tight in the magazine and doesn't fit in the rifle very well with 4 rounds (I suspect the pressure of getting that fourth round in is causing the sides of the magazine to bend outwards just enough to make it a tight fit) plus I can't seat the magazine on a closed bolt if its loaded with 4 rounds. With 3 rounds in the mag it is neither a tight fit nor an issue inserting on a closed bolt. Thus, I find myself having to either just load 3 rounds, or load 4 rounds but insert the mag on an open bolt and immediately chamber the first round.

So with that said, I was thinking about replacing the Kwik Klip with a factory (or aftermarket perhaps) hinged floorplate setup. However, I don't really know where to start looking, or what bits and pieces I might need. I have tried google, but pretty much everything I get is for aftermarket detachable mag conversions. I did get to Gravel Agency's website at one point that listed individual replacement parts for a Rem 700, but I'm not certain which part(s) I would need and it doesn't look like a cheap option - just the trigger guard is $160 and then I need whatever magazine parts still I beleive?...

I have also been keeping an eye on the EE, but I haven't seen anything for a 308-sized cartridge (seen a few 223 ones, but thats it).

Is there a retail source for what I am after? Or is a used one the only way to get one without paying a crazy amount? Specifically what parts do I need if I can only find individual parts and not the whole mag/floor plate/whatever in one package? What is a reasonable price for what I am after on the used market?

Thanks!

Floorplate/trigger guard, mag box, spring and follower.

Try Western Gun Parts.

They come up on the EE, thats what I would hold out for, usually 100.00 for everything,

Here's the parts you'd be looking for:

Trigger guard/floor plate
Box
Spring
Follower
Action screws,

Is there any reason why I wouldn't be able to use the action screws I already have? The Kwik Klip conversion seems to be very close to the factory trigger guard, but I could be wrong?

Hmm I couldn't answer that directly, it's quite likely they are the factory ones as its advertised as a quick swap, so most likely the factory action screws work perfect for it, I was stating it in my list above as that is what usually Is for sale as a kit on the EE,
Looks like you got some great leads,
Cheers!

They are the originals, as kwik klip doesn't come with screws. Looks like you have some offers above anyhow...

Should be easy to find on an exchange thread as many shooters drop the floorplates and opt for a detachable mag assembly. They are not expensive. I picked one up on the forum to replace a broken hinge on my buddy's rifle. The whole floorplate assembly cost me $50 plus shipping.

Thats what I had assumed too, I figured I would be able to hop on the EE and there would be a handful of them for sale for reasonable prices. Alas, I haven't seen any short action models in the few weeks that I've been looking.

I never did get a PM from Neilm, so I just sent him one and we'll see how that goes.

^^ Lots of this still going on and gunsmiths who do the truing/rebarreling and fitting new stocks will have a bunch laying around.

Try Keith Cunningham at Milcun.
