I have some of those giant air gun pellet shaped slugs (Lyman, I think) that I bought at a gunshow. I just loaded some and found they shoot very well.

Some 3 gun shoots require a fair number of slugs, so I would rather shoot cheap re-loads then factory stuff.

Can anyone sell me a couple hundred? Or put me onto someone who sells them?

I don't have this mould and my electric casting furnace has failed.

I have a mould that makes this, it is a 2-cavity made by MP Moulds in Slovenia. I think it casts a bit big: wads inevitably have all their petals sheared off in firing and it takes a lot of effort to push the slug/wad combo through the bore. Reading comments by hands experienced in shooting this slug suggests this is not a good thing for accuracy, and sure enough I find my accuracy through a rifled 870 barrel to be mediocre. I have been wondering if I should have a sizing die made that reduces the size slightly.

If you have some capacity to size them, or if it shoots better for you than for me, or if you don't need cutting edge accuracy, I should be able to help you out.

What is the slug diameter? I can compare that to what I have, that works well.

What is the shape of the slug?

Have you tried casting at a higher temp to get more shrinkage and a smaller diameter?

Visually they look identical to the Lyman 525 "pellet" slug. I haven't tried any casting techniques to fix things, I just made one big batch of slugs with pure lead a couple of summers ago and then set about making a variety of loads looking for accuracy. I only recently devised the "oversized" theory after nothing I did produced very inspiring results.

I'm in a hotel at this instant, I'll be home in a couple of days and will post a measurement.

Sorry Ganderite, I intended to do this last weekend.

I measured four slugs at the top and bottom band, taking one measurement close to the parting line and one 90° to the parting line. Average is 0.680" at the top band and 0.664" at the lower band.

Those dimensions do not look to be "oversize". They are similar to my sample of the Lyman pellet slug.

That size should fit nicley inside a plastic wad column.

I am wondering if it is a slug that would work in a smooth bore but not a rifled bore? Maybe too long for the slow twist?

They do fit nicely in a Winchester 12 gauge wad, but the two together do not fit nicely through my barrel. The wad does not survive the trip and I struggle to do any better than 100mm groups at 50m.

Everything I have seen regarding this slug design is that it is intended strictly for rifled bores.
