I came across some photos of a few "show piece" AR's that had skeleton style uppers AND lowers. The F1 AR has inspired me as well.
I think I might build one.

I'm finding that skeleton Uppers, hand guards, grips etc are relatively easy to source. The lower might be really tricky.

There are a few manufactures south of the border but they don't seem to have any in stock or they are just old sites from bankrupt businesses.

**Maybe someone can help me find a supplier, or knows a shop in Canada that could mill a custom one from an 80% lower or a complete stripped lower??**

is this a new fad?
there was another thread the other day about f1 firearms
I dunno why this is happening
I must be missing something

why would they waste their time to skeletonize the lower for weight savings, then run an upper with FA and the shell deflector?

better off just making is from carbon fiber and calling it done

Im having an F1 built that should actually have shipped out late this week. I post up more details about it when I get it. I love the look of them. They are a little lighter but that isn't the only reason Im getting one. As for the guys that don't get it, well guess what? No one is forcing you to get one. You can run the same old black boring AR as everyone else does.

If we're talking about pi$sing money away...

...I'd rather throw it at something like a custom finish than waste my time with useless mods that have the potential to reduce the reliability and possible safe functioning of my rifle, but whatever floats your boat.

First with the scallops in the upper adjacent to the bolt group, and then next to the moving parts of the trigger? What could possibly go wrong?

Haha the "old boys" will hate on the skelotonized fad, personally I love it. Something different and looks amazing! And to the clowns saying they are less reliable, DemolitionRanch and a couple others ran these through torture tests and they perform! Of course it is not a battle piece, it is for show/competition. F1 Firearms make some seriously sharp AR's, if you are on Instagram make sure to follow them.

Kinda like when people ask why I put 24" Wheels on my F-350 Diesel... Doesn't mean it can't work, just looks better doing it ;P

well that will keep the #### out of it real well. not. and as has been said I hope you never have a falure. comeing from someone who HAS had a falure that put the upper and lower into pieces, this one wouldn't really save your face good luck with your project

Ha ha... as if people are talking about catastrophic failures....

the meat that protects your face is all still there, and as a point of devils advocate, the more area to let the pressure out, the less "detonation" there is....

And yes.... I have also had an AR blow up on me.

This in no way makes a range gun less reliable.... I don't know about you, but I do not drop my gun in the mud at the range.

I think it looks great, and is certainly an interesting way to make up an AR.

I especially like the red and black.

Fine for a range gun... I pointed out I wouldn't want to use it in Tac Rifle or 3 Gun Matches!!! I have a Lantac Dragon on one of mine, and both my rifle and I are COVERED in muck and bark mulch after doing urban prone under VTAC walls or cars. Even the Smith Vortex kicks junk up.

Competition? Questionable - even by IPSCers who fall for the blingiest crap out there (SVI anyone?).
Throwing a rifle in a pond of water, clearing it and then spraying that pond with rounds by some 20something tool with a utube channel isn't really my idea of a ringing endorsement, but as I've said whatever blows your hair back.

Lots of 3 gun people down south using them. If you don't believe in them and posted your opinion then any further posts is just trolling isn't it? There are people that like them and I am one of them. If you don't like them then there isn't really a need for you to post in this thread is there.

What's lots? Ten? More? Genuinely curious.

At the risk of further trolling (by your definition), I was playing around with a cheep-o kitchen scale and a bunch of AR pieces/parts.

Stripped upper (flat top with case deflector, port door installed and forward assist, but no charging handle) weighed in at 8.4oz.
Stripped lower (completely) weighed in at 8.7oz.

Other interesting items:
Empty 30 round P-mag (including one aluminum rivet): 4.9 oz.
A2 flash hider (no crush washers or shims): 2.0 oz.
Complete F.A. Bolt carrier group: 11.9 oz.

Assuming these lightening cuts reduce the material by about 25-30% for both the upper and lower the weight savings alone would be anywhere from around 4.5 to 5.1 oz. - right around the weight of an empty P-mag.

Ive done my research. You go ahead and do your own. Have you handled one yet? Or is it just speculating on your part? Again it is more then just weight. I think some of them look pretty cool. Some Are not for me. I have no idea why you keep coming back to the thread if your not interested in one??
