Wow, I see some No4 Enfields are still in service as parade rifles, this is a recent picture as it has the new South African flag on the uniform. Interesting the No. 9 bayonet is not the unique SA one but the one issued by the UK. The Army has just done Battle in the Congo.

I am surprised still to see Enfield's in such good condition, as before I left in 1995, the SA Army had already surplussed a whole lot, current officers could get a new one for next to nothing and I bought a used No4 from a store

Long live the Lee Enfield (Still often see the Indian Army carrying them)

On Obama's recent trip to Jordan, Jordanian honour guards were holding their LE#4 at the welcoming ceremony.

The military Mauser’s where only during the Boer war 1880–1881 and 1899–1902 and only approx. 30,000 of them made it, the Boers used everything they could, including Lee Metford’s/Enfield’s, after that SA was part of the British Empire just like Canada and used British equipment, just like Canada.
 
I once owned a South African marked Savage No4. South Africa provided troops to fight in North Africa and Italy during WW2. They were organized and equipped along British lines as were the other Commonwealth troops.
 
SA also fought in Korea on the side of UN & Commonwealth. But UN & the west then turned their back on SA in favour of pro commie ANC & Mandela.

to the eternal shame of any right thinking person, and the destruction of the country as an economic power or even a very viable state :(
