Bought an over priced case of 7.62 (malasian can be had for 35 cents a round in Amerika) and miked it all and sorted it by over all length and batched it. It measured worse than dominion arsenal , IVI , lake city , IMI , FNM , hirtengerger, etc. My conclusion was that it was belt ammo. Just spent the day shooting the S/A milsurp out of several rifles - bolt and m 14's and comparing it to the good stuff. Seems the shooting verified my conclusions from measuring. I managed consistent 1 inch groups with a couple of the other brands and under 2 inches with some. The South African varied between 5 and 12 inches with all the rifles. It shot 10 to 12 inches lower and 4 to 8 inches to the right compared to the good stuff out of several m14's. Occasionally I could get a consistent group then a flyer (not shooter induced) would open a 3 inch group up to 12 inches. ITS A SHAME that thats all the milsurp available any more. Wish I had bought remington UMC . Well ,got about 900 or so rds. of 200 yd gong bangin ammo left (big gong).
Sorry John and Ryan

SA surplus

I wonder how many different lots may be out there? i bought a couple cases and it performs to what i would expect of it, 3-4" out of an untuned Norc, 2-3" out of a NM tuned Norc, and really suprised me in my PSS with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2" groups:D. i haven't bothered to mike any of it, all ine is in sealed battle packs. got lucky and bought it when it first arrived LY and paid $350/k. sad part is it's almost gone:mad:

I have 2 Norinc's, one tuned with a 22 inch bbl. but stock Norinc furniture, the second is a 18.5 inch carbine mounted in a clone sage stock.

My South african PM shoots 2-3 inches in both, where my handloaded ammo shoots 1.5 inch. I have no complaints about this ammo. As with others it came sealed in battle packs and I have only opened what I have used so far.

I have a whack of South African .303, and have noticed that one lot is great, the other - not so much.

Maybe they had Monday and Friday quality control problems?

African surplus

I'm so glad someone started this thread on African 7.62 Surplus. I bought a couple battle packs on Saturday to go and sight in my M14 or (305) Norinco for a shoot on Sunday and I ended up spending the hole day trying to figure out what the hell was going on.(I enjoyed the shooting part but) This ammo I bought was one of the most inconsistent ammo I've shot. My conclusion on the range to make it short is that at 100 yards I could put a 2 to 3 rounds in a group of 1 to 3 inches and always had a 2 to 3 rounds go stray like 12 inches away and opposite sides and that happened all day and yes I was using a rest. At 200 yards had the same results. At 300 yards i figured this ammo is slow because i had a drop of over 12 inches when i set it to 300 yards on my sight. I had to set my sight to 400 yards to finally hit some target. I'm not sure if this was just my luck on the battle packs that i bought but i thought to post it anyways and see if anyone else had some input. All in all I enjoyed the day shooting but I went home very puzzled on this ammo. If anyone has got some feedback or some results from the range on this ammo please post.

Was there saw it didnt like the price. Regret that cause it probably is better than the S/A. Gonna go up again and grab a bunch then test it. If good will let you all know - I still have a couple of 1000 rds of good stuff -FNM,Dominion Arsenal,IMI,IVI,Lake City etc. (No - not for sale)
The S/A must be belt ammo or the machines were way off kilter.I remember a batch from many years ago that I tried was almost as bad.The wild flyers are a result of varying powder dumps into the casings.

Epps .308

The stuff at EPPS is marked match but it is South Korean milsurp. They have about 100 cases of the stuff I think around $575 a case. The ROK army is one tough sunova##### and I would think they dont kid around when it comes to quality of firepower. The manufacturer of the stuff is unknown but I would suspect it was manufactured by PMC in Korea before the move to Mexico. Any of the Korean PMC I have shot over the last 40 years has been good. Will let you all know about this batch.
