Looking for a taxidermist in south Vancouver Island area to mount my whitetail buck I got in Alberta last week. Quality is most important. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Bear Hill Taxidermy does the best work on deer in the Victoria area. He usually advertises in the BC hunting regs. but I don't recall seeing his ad. this year.

Lagoon taxidermy does a OK job as well.

Don't use Bear Hill taxidermy and I can say that from personal experience. It took 3 years of badgering to get my Mountain Goat back from him and then he decided to charge me a higher price. I previously had a Mule deer done by him (which took over a year) and I can't say the quality was super great. I have heard great things about Lagoon though. You can come by my house Geoff and check the mounts out to see for yourself.

Cheers

Mike

3 years for my buddy to get his mule deer from Dan at Bear Hill as well. All his calls went unanswered as well.

H'mmm, 3 years. Dan didn't use to be that slow. How long does it take Lagoon?

I've seen lots of Terry's mounts. Some are decent, some look totally goofy. ie. Smiling deer, to much putty around the eye's etc.

You could always go with that guy up in CR :runaway: . But then you never know what's going to happen.

Taxidermy

Jeez....doesnt sound to promising. Guess I had it good before as a good buddy back in Ontario was a taxidermist and did several excellent mounts for me. Thanks for input guys. I'll be at Duncan show Sunday with my little guy and will ask around there also. Might take you up on your offer Bluetick.

There is a taxidermist just past Mill Bay (3 Mins) heading north on the Island Highway on the right hand side. I'm not sure of the name but I pass it everyday coming home from work. There is a big sign on the side of the highway advertising polar bear rugs etc. Check it out.

Mill bay guy does pretty scarey stuff if he's still in business.

I'd still take it to Dan at Bear Hill but ask him to be straight on time, including tannery return time. If he say's it will be two years and it takes 26 months that's fine.

Lots of guys are happy with Lagoon. Seems to be a better business person. He's probably got lot's of work he could show you.

I've seen some of the work from Mill Bay and wouldn't take anything there myself. Bear Hill does nice work but sounds like you shouldn't be in a rush. Probably a matter of managing expectations.
