Southern AB prairie. Mule buck

Rattling Will workshop , but you Can spot Them from a long ways away
Never had to rattle , it seems it gets good around the 18 of nov right till the end
Last couple of yrs I saw some 200" deer on the last day of the season
Every one was tagged out except for some does tags that got filled

I would be looking at a good 150gr load for the 06 but 165 would be fine too. I wouldn't be taking the 300 if its heavy. Mule deer hunting can mean a lot of foot miles each day.

Between the cartridges listed there is no noticeable difference in effectiveness in normal mule deer hunting. I'd suggest taking the rifle you shoot the best from field positions, and the rifle you like to carry the best.

My whitetail load in 708 is a speer btsp 130gr doing 3000 fps. A mini 270 with 130s I guess. Thoughts on that for mule deer out to 350 yds?

My 165 accubond in 3006 is running around 2860 fps. I've taken elk with that. But wondering if accubond is too much for deer.

Having shot many mulies on the AB prairies pack the one yu shoot the best and go hunting.

Ive killed them with the .243 up to .338. All died without any fuss.

All things being equal, I'd load up some 140gr SSTs in the 7-08 and practice out to 400. You'd lack nothing.

Edit- jusy read your WT load. Use that and post pictures when youre done.

Ya I'd say the 7-08 would be fine. And it looks like a good year for some Big Mulie bucks down south this year. Out scouting I've seen numerous 180+ in 119. In fact, for bow season, I got a shallow coulee 300 yards from the road with 9 bucks all bedding down in there. And they have been consistent on where they feed, what time they head out, and what time they come back to bed. And luckily I got a tree stand right over their water hole. Plus a stack of hay bails I can hide in exactly 40 yards from where they cross every evening to get to their feed. Wish me luck! On looks close to 200! And another 3 are around the 180 mark!
I've been shooting my bow like a mad man, and making sure everything is tuned just perfect... Can't wait!
