My self and some buddies are heading to Grand Forks next week to try out luck at cutting our tags on a 6 point Elk. We've done about as much research as google earth and forums can afford us but I am hoping to see if anyone has any tips for the area or knows any landowners that would be interested in seeing some elk thinned off their fields.

Plan is to head north up the Granby along North Fork and find some friendly cutblocks to start hiking into and setup and start calling.

Knowing that it may be tough to cut our tags on a 6 point, we certainly wouldn't pass up a black bear or deer if one presented itself.

Let me know how your hunt goes bud, just spent a whole ONE night in region 8-5 looking for Mule 4 points+ or white tail bucks but we only saw one doe and then my hunting partner realized he didn't bring warm enough clothes and went home 2 days early....was pretty disappointed but wont be tying my horse to that wagon again. Ended up getting 13 grouse in the day and a half we were up there but didn't make up for the lack of deer.

Been about a week since you posted so fingers crossed you bagged something!

Honestly went pretty well all things considered. Had a chance at a mature black bear on the morning of our drive out but misunderstood the regs and thought I couldnt take a bear on crown land (Won't make that mistake again).

Going up North fork and the Grand forks area is great. Definitely bears up there. Saw a momma and 4 cubs. Lotta dear sign saw 2 muley does but couldn't connect on a buck sighting. Bagged about 12 grouse along the way. Elk are up there but weren't calling where we were that's for sure.

Overall I would say if you are in the area and are able to put some miles on your boots and scout you could definitely connect with some animals. A fun weekend trip regardless. If anyone wants some non-local knowledge on the area from this trip shoot me a PM!
