I scanned chapter IV of Bolotins book "Soviet Small Arms and Ammunition" for a contact, but thought others might like it as well.

Keeping in mind that it was written in the 1960's and Bolotin has a heavy bias, it is still an interesting read and contains information not seen very often else where.

I should add that I would love a copy in Russian as well, not that I understand a word of it, it would just be awesome to have an original.

The Russians simply finished the job the Germans did half assed. :)

Very interesting. I didnt realize that the Russians expanded so much time and resources into creating a selfloadong rifle. You would think that they would just hand there groundpounding cannonfodder a bolt gun off the shelf and tell them to make it work. I think the cold war has led us to believe that they are a bunch of idiots

Well they kind of lost the war.

However 8mm kurz vs 7.62 M43 is really much of a much ness, both will kill you within the ranges they are intended to.

Edit, besides they did finish the job, what do you think Hugo Schmeisser was doing in the Soviet Union from 1946 to 1953? ;)

That and...

Schmeisser's most important work had been underway since 1938. This new automatic weapon, with a short cartridge 7.92 mm., allowed for smart usage of resources and high production. At first named the Mkb 42, it later received the designation of MP-43, and it became one of the first assault rifles. By 1943, 10000 pieces had already been manufactured for the front. For a short time, Hitler stopped production, as he was mysteriously opposed to the new weapon.
