Hi folks,

I lucked into this one in a trade. Down here in the States, the Soviet military Makarovs are pretty rare. This one came in with a bunch of Bulgarians, and is in pretty pristine condition. The trigger is nowhere near as good as that I had on my old East German, but the gun is nice.

I shot three different types of ammo (range 63° F, 5950 feet above sea level):

American Eagle 95-gr FMJ: M 1063 fps/ES 29.99/SD 11.87
Norinco Factory 71 FMJ from 1989 (IIRC, this stuff runs 93 grains - but it's not on the box): M 986.4/ES 36.76/SD 15.45
S&B 95-gr FMJ: M 1069 fps/ES 30.90/SD 14.79

Three weeks later I re-chrono'd two of the boxes at 70°F, same range:

Norinco M 1027/ES 72.83/SD 30.04
S&B M 1106/ES 69.74/SD 28.26

Because the gun is collectible hereabouts, I don't carry it and rarely shoot it. It am happy to have it, though. :)
 
i always wanted one of the east german makarovs, but can't have one because apparently they are super dangerous.
 
I just sold my Bulgarian Makarov a few months ago. I really like them. Super reliable & about as powerful a caliber as you can get in a straight blowback action.

A number of years ago, a friend of mine had it's baby brother. Super small & thin. It fired a bottleneck cartridge that had a .25 caliber bullet. It came with a pigskin shoulder holster and at the time was one of only 3 in Canada.
He was told that they were special issue for Russian Agents.
 
I checked the PSM & that sure looks like it. I remember that there were no grips. The frame was actually also the grips. The whole gun was not much wider than the cartridge.

Supposedly they came out of Russia in a diplomatic pouch ( smuggled ).
My friend's gun was with the RCMP for some time as they were very interested in it. He was not allowed to keep the few rounds of ammo as the RCMP said it was designed to go through bullet proof vests ( An assassin's gun ).
I also remember seeing an article in an American gun magazine on it. They only had photos. No actual test gun.
 
Colin, I've wanted a PSM since I first heard of them in the late '80s. Be another safe queen, though.

Ronin, I was talking about the gun Colin mentioned, not the PM I posted photos of. If you'll look at my first post where I started this thread, you'll see my reports of using that round. :)
 
Thats nice to see a Soviet Mak! Too bad we live in socialist waters.

Do me a favour Erich, do whatever you can to keep your country free from people who would see those little pistols go the way ours did up here.
