like the above says,
Just bought one today ...I was wondering what year the SMG heavy machinegun was put into service along side the SG43? anyone know on here? I looked it up and they didnt go to deep into details on the SMG...most of the info I could find was on the SG43.

The only information I can seem to find is that the modernization process began after the end of hostilities in 1945.

....wonder where a guy could find a tripod or carriage for one in canada...even better just the pattern for it I'd fabricate one myself.

hmmm did some reasearch and it would seem my SGM used to be mounted on a vehicle or a plane ....where theres a lack in sights im thinking a plane, and it has the solinoid.....still it has the mounting points for a ground fire setup...thats what I'll be doing with it, whoever dewated it did a neat clean job kept all the welds real neat and tidy.

I remember seeing CA SGMs for sale in Edmonton complete with wheeled carriage and shield in the mid to late 80's. That is if my memory serves me correctly.

More then likly, I find it hard to find much SGM stuff here in Canada I wonder how many made it here, probably all been dewated too...kinda cool though the guy I got it from used to display it on a mount on his old army jeep, all I wanted it for was a good display piece at reenactments, should suit its purpose rather well I'd say...designing a bracket to mount it to a PKM tripod make it a coldwar setup. another idea I was toying with is to set it up so it shoots propane I saw a Vickers done that way one time, I havent a clue how youed do it and make it work right where the barrals had the breech end and just inside the muzzle end pluged and welded . anyone know how its done?
