Im going on my first bear hunt soon and I have two boxes of ammo to choose from. I would like to know what you think would be my better choice.
30-06 180gr remington core-lokt SP or 30-06 180gr remington core-lokt PSP?

I will be hunting over bait and expect to be shooting under 50yards

Either would be fine. I'm guessing that the SP is a round nose bullet? I don't think that you would notice any difference between the two at 150 yards or less. A .30-06 and 180 grain bullets is a tough combination to beat for blackies, maybe pick the one that shoots better out of your rifle.

At normal black bear ranges, I would prefer the round nosed bullet. Now in all probability the bear wouldn't be able to discern which bullet killed him. On the other hand - it is my opinion that a bullet which has parallel sides and little or no taper is less likely to fail than a tapered or spitzer bullet, and is more likely to give straight line penetration through the target. I use pointed bullets when I anticipate shots beyond 150 yards.
