SP01 vs S2

Looking for some people with experience shooting both. On Reddit, people are saying getting the SP01, you will want to replace the hammer, grips, spring to a lighter one (#13?), and add an adjustable back sight. With all that listed, you're close to the price of a S2. I'm looking to shoot production division, what do you guys think?

Thanks

if you don`t have much experience with SP-01, then S2 may be a better choice for you....
I`ve shot SP-01 for 3 years in Production (long time ago, now shooting Classic) and love it.....personally, don`t like S2: narrower top of the slide and 120gr heavier on the nose.....
I tuned my SP-01 myself and have 2 of them ready for rock-and-roll....

I'm still lov'n my S2. I like the ergonomics and the front heavy helps reduce the muzzle flip. A lot of folks complain about the sloping slide profile but I don't mind it at all. I manipulate the slide using a cupped hand via the front serations and have no problems. If you use a slingshot or overhand method of working the slide, you might have problems getting a solid grip on the slide due to the profile. The S2 can be found for $1199. and pretty much ready to go out of the box.

The SP01 goes for around $900. For the $300 difference, I think it's worth it for the upgraded features on the S2 if you plan on shooting matches. That's not to say the SP01 hasn't won it's share of matches.

What kind of adjustments did you have to make?

The only adjustments you need for the shadow are lower power main and recoil springs. Like literally a $20 investment and the gun is competitive in production, I ran mine like that for a year until I recently got a shadow 2.
The only other thing you may want to consider is upgrading the grips, some people love them but some hate them...

If you're still deciding witch one to buy, I would try both in hand and buy whichever one you prefer. With the same thin aluminum grips on both guns, the shadow 1 is thinner at the upper portion of the frame. Nose weight of the s2 helps recoil marginally but slows transitions.
Overall, both guns are very good choices. I give the edge to the s2 but the s1 is a better value

I found the shadow 2 to be much better ergonomically for me. The double action on the SP01 never felt right to me, but the shadow 2 I found to be easier

What weight spring(s). There are a few options I see. 15, 13, 11 (recoil)

Just ordered a pile of SP-01 parts from Select but they are out of the 13# Main and Recoil Springs (but have the 15# - same goes for Tenda).

Who else carries a good selection of SP-01 stuff? FOC also has some I see (Dlask branded) but Dlask who are very close to me are selling them as made in Czech near the CZ plant..... they have 13#

I've shot both in IPSC. Personally I would recommend against the SP01 unless it's a killer used price. You have to do to many mods to get it to Shadow 1 spec, so you are better off buying a Shadow 1 usually.

I think the Shadow 1 is a better value than the Shadow 2, but the Shadow 2 is a nicer gun and you'll never be able to add the barrel length, grip frame reshaping, grip texture, thumb rest safety, and weight that the S2 has. So overall the S2 is better, unless you are trying to keep to a tight budget or find that the S1 fits your hands better.

You will want 13lb main spring for a balance of reliability and lower pull weight. The 15lb isn't much lower than factory. The recoil spring can be a more personal "feel" most prefur 11lb, I didn't notice much difference between 11 and 13.
Personally I'm currently using 11lb for both but hard to find them...
They can be difficult to find in canada, select would usually be my first stop. I have ordered from ipsc store eu and robin Sebo when parts cannot be found in Canada
Adam had a good point, make sure you get an Sp01 shadow, not just sp01. The firing pin block has been removed in the shadow model

I didn't know there was two different model SP01 and SP01 Shadow. Thanks for that.

So what upgrades are IPSC Production legal? What do people recommend?

On a Shadow 1: grips, grip tape, magazines, action spring, hammer spring, and pre-B disconnector.
On a Shadow 2: magazines
