SPAS-12 Importation

The SPAS-15 is prohibited. Same order as the SPAS-12. I don't know if any SPAS-15s were even imported by the time of the ban. There were lots of SPAS-12's though.
My uncle had a SPAS-12 in 1990 or so. It was my first semi-auto shotgun experience. We had an excellent time blasting jugs and cans and the occasional pumpkin with Imperial high brass bird shot. High brass shot was the only thing that cycled properly in semi-auto mode. It was heavier than hell and awkward to shoulder. My uncle's had the famous hook at the end of the stock.
When they were declared prohibited by Kim Campbell the cops used the dealer records to coerce the dealers to tell them who they sold them to. Since there was no "long gun registry" at the time and dealer records was the only method of tracking long gun sales. Sort of the same thing that the CFO's want to happen now, to use dealer records to facilitate mass confiscation since they don't have their precious registry. Barrett "Light 50"s, Calico .22's, Benelli M1 Tactical models, McMillan .50's are among other commonly owned long guns that were seized in this manner. My buddy's Skorpion, Tec-9 and Universal Enforcer were easily tracked and seized because they were registered as handguns. The owners simply got a letter from the RCMP stating "we know what you have. Turn it in or else". To think, Anne McLellan promised us that registration would never lead to confiscation. History must NEVER repeat itself. NEVER. We must unite as a group and ensure this never happens again.

Perhaps because it it too easy to obtain parts to make it fully automatic. As it was, when I was in the Forces, my section always had fully auto C1s: you could do it with a paper match and if you did it correctly, if would even stop firing you released the trigger!

Huh, and here I thought these new ledgers would be useless in confiscation because it's an unreliable paper trail. Did they end up taking his Spas-12? I thought you could have it grandfathered. Blah this just made me angry for today =\.

If he still had it, they would have confiscated it. Anything listed in Prohibited Weapons Order #11 wasn't grandfathered. My father lost his Tec-22 due to that OIC.

The prohib list is here (scroll down about a third of the page to find the contents of Order #11):

I own a very lovely Italian 'black' shotgun... Non restricted too. :)

Ok, again, I appreciate that everyone has their favourite shotgun and all that. I'm not interested in alternatives though. Again, if someone has an idea of where to nab a PA8, or advice on a Shotgun that looks extremely similar to the SPAS-12, please do share. But I'm not going to buy a weapon that doesn't interest me.

Thanks.

Buy an airsoft SPAS-12 and have a friend fire a real shotgun over your shoulder. That's as close as you're going to get to owning and shooting one in Canada.

No one makes dress kits that I know of so, short of carving or blow molding your own stock set, you're going to be SOL.

Alternatively, you could join NFA/CSSA and help fight to get rid of the whole firearms act and prohib bull#### to begin with, which would solve the problem of stupid bureaucratic interpretation.

Sorry man, forget owning a SPAS-12. Unless you move to the U.S of A there is nothing similar except for the PA-8. In 10 years of being a member of this forum I've only seen a couple PA-8's on the EE. However, with lots of patience, they can be had. Tape a brick to either side of a Remington 870, that will simulate a SPAS's weight. I know from personal experience.

As far as Unc's SPAS goes, last time I asked him he told me he legally sold it to a farmer (it was still legal at the time). He never said whether he got a phone call from the boys in blue or not. Either way, he doesn't have it and hasn't for 22 years or so, now.

I have a PA-8 in very good to excellent condition..... bought new many years ago and fired less than 20 rounds. I replaced the wooden butt stock with a folding one from an SPAS-12 (cost me $200 used but in very good condition).

The SPAS-12 and PA-8 use a few similar parts (from what I can tell from pictures but don't quote me)

It comes with 3 screw-on chokes and has been sitting in my safe all along. I had decided a couple years ago to cut the barrel down and load it with accessories and dress it up but never got around to it.

I have lost interest in these kinds of projects so I might eventually put it up for sale or offer it in a trade - I haven't made up my mind yet.

Good luck!
