Hello Everyone,

First off thanks for getting me hooked on the SKS's having alot of fun with the one i picked up the other day.

I was wondering if anyone had heard of a tool or had one they're rigged togehter to make getting that pin out out of the upper handguard/gas tube easier

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Steel punch and a hammer. Ideally, if you can have a hardwood block with a hole, you rest the handguard on the wood block and punch the pin out. The idea is to make a hole in the block so the pin have some room to move. I didnt encounter a pin yet that i couldnt drive out with that method.:)

If your feeling energetic. You can modify a C-clamp

I've attempted to remove mine with a punch and hammer. No luck yet, but I didn't use a vice or another set of hands.

If the pin was mashed a little on installation it may make it tight to drive out with a punch. You could relieve that a little by drilling the end of the pin slightly on a drill press to carve off the "shoulder" that locks the pin in place. Careful not to cut into the metal of the hand guard end bracket or else it won't hold tight when you put the new pin in. Oh yeah, you'll need a new pin after.

Should have asked that question myself 6 years ago and saved a lot of head bashing and teaching the neighbors new english swear words! But then again, you don't ask for help when you know everything.

Believe it or not I had issues with the bolt pin as well, but i put the whole bolt assembly in the freezer for 20 mins and when i took it out, it came out with a punch and hammer nicely.

hope it helps
