I'm looking to find the tightest posible patterning choke for shooting #4 Buck and 00 Buck. I want it for coyote hunting and would like as much range as possible. I've used standard chokes and found my mod. gives the tightest patterns but they arne't even close to what I want for good clean kills. I've heard some chokes like the Pattermaster and Wad Wizard will give 18" pattens with 00 buck at 40yrds and 24" patterns at 80yrds. I have a 36" patern at 40yrds with my current set up.
Has anyone any experience with these chokes or others? They are kind of expensive to just try a couple different ones out.

Thanks
Tim

TreX, buckshot is notoriously difficult to pattern. The loads themselves can make more difference than the degree of choke. I would suggest starting out by patterning multiple loads and see if one will do what you want. If that still does no good (or you have already done this) then I suggest you contact Stephen Milton at Precision Arms. Here is their web page:

While he does not advertise a buckshot specific choke, there is no one in this country who understands chokes better than Mr. Milton. He could either build you what you want, or give you opinions on existing product.

I'm not planing on shootingt anything at 80yrds with buckshot but some of the claims I've seen from various chokes do say they will throw a 24" pattern at 80yrds. I forget which choke it is but a 24" pattern of #4 buck at 80yrds I'm pretty sure would make short work of a chicken stealin' coyote.

I'd take the shotgun out and pattern test it with various loads and chokes... It's the only way your gonna know for sure...

I found that an extended steel tube in Improved modified works deadly with #4 buckshot... Long range waterfowl tubes for steel shot are the same thing.
I can put all 54 pellets from a Winchester #4 buck 3 1/2 inch load into a 36 inch circle at 75 yards... wicked on running coyotes.
