This rifle was mentioned a while ago, but the search isn't showing anything recent.

I just got word that Specter Arms is 3 weeks away from releasing their MP5 looking S2 Rifle. http://www.specterarms.ca/index_files/Page895.htm

Interesting, very interested. They're asking $1099 for the S2A1 (right hand cocking) and $1299 (left hand cocking). A lot of money for a .22, but it looks like this'll be the closest any of us younger folks come to owning an MP5 here in Canada.

Doesn't look much like a MP5 to me at all. It just looks like a dressed up 10/22, and since it takes the same mags, why not go the 10/22 route.

I would rather use the MP5 navy to build a look a like than an MP5 SD.

It's not a bad rip off,but at 1000$ ill buy a CZ 58 in 223,they will have in the future a 22 kit available.(sorry if i got out of the thread here :) )

Since I know the guy that makes them, I've seen them in person, they're very nice guns.

Obviously not a 100% copy of an MP5, but its got some nice features. The 16" picatinny top rail lets you use any iron sights you want (magpul sights, or fixed) or obviously optics. Free floated barrel that threads into the receiver, instead of the 10/22 style barrel. It does use the Ruger 10/22 bolt and trigger group, so if you want a nice mach grade trigger group, just swap em out. Obviously its not going to compete with a ruger 10/22 in price, but if you start adding the chassis stock systems, plus buttstocks etc... Then look at your tactical .22's by Colt, mossberg, Remington. They ALL use proprietary magazines, and they're all restricted.

Receiver is machined aircraft grade aluminum, not pot metal, nor castings; so its good and solid. its also got weight to it, some may not like that, but some might.

IMHO this is a good step for Canadian manufacturing as a whole, its starting to show that we can make cool stuff like this, and the more interest, the less its going to cost.

Is $1099 the price for the complete gun ready to go, or do I have to supply my own bolt and trigger group?

Complete gun ready to go.

The mossberg and remington models are not restricted neither is the sr22

The ruger and the Remington are both 10/22's pretty much, just a chassis system. Forgot about the Mossberg though!

In my opinion, it looks like a neat rifle but the cost is too high. I realize these aren't cheap to make and it's tough to balance scale of production with the initial investment, but the price is going to turn a lot of prospective buyers off. The second thing I see with it is that it doesn't provide a good training analogue to any established full-bore rifles. The Specter rifle doesn't appear to match any of the control layouts or scale for any rifle I recognize.

I have to applaud them for bringing a new product out, but this shows how tough it can be.

Well, to be picky about it the Remington is a completely different rifle than a 10/22 but I know what you're trying to say. That they're both dress-up kits on a traditional action. And the Specter rifle is a complete action in and of itself.

Got some pics today!

One thing to keep in mind, since the barrel is pretty short by itself, the stocks shown are "fixed open" to keep OAL over 26", the stocks they'll come with will IIRC be a normal MP5 looking stock.

The price is pretty high on them, but one thing to keep in mind these aren't high production rifles by any means. I think the first batch of them was 50 rifles? If the US market was open, it would have been possible to make 100 or 200 or even more. Unfortunately just the way it worked out with the machining costs and all that figured in.

Its possibly if the first run does go fast (despite price) that more future runs will be less expensive since they wont be paying for the designing costs and all that. (although don't quote me on that, just speculating :p )

doesnt look like an MP5.. They should have done what promag do. Put that thing in a shell instead of frankenstein it.
