Anyone have any feedback on the Speed Feed I stock for the Remington 870?
I like the idea of carrying the extra rounds without having to bolt anything off the side of the stock, reciever, etc. Also does anyone know a site sponsor that stocks them? Any feedback will be appreciated, thanks.

A Speedfeed stock came as standard equipment on my 590 Mossberg, and I have been very impressed with it's quality and toughness, but nothing in life is perfect and that goes with the Speedfeed stock as well. I was concerned that the springs from the shell holders were going to damage the backside of the recoil pad which does not have hard backing, so I put a thin stainless steel spacer in to protect the pad, which left a gap, so I put a wrap of electrical tape around the space. That worked. I found that the spring pressure against the shells is quite strong. This is good in that it holds the shells securely, but it makes removal of shells difficult, particularly 3" shells, and over time shells with conventional folded crimps tends to open up, spilling shot and filler. The solution is to just use the shell holder for 2.75" shells, or just hold a single 3" shell in each recess, and choose shells with welded crimps or slugs.

One other problem is that these stocks are designed with a 14" LOP, which for me is a bit long. I have Speedfeed's Youth stock on order, but it doesn't have the shell holder. The Youth stock has a 13" LOP and I am installing a sling plate between the stock and the receiver which should bring it to 13.25". That should be just about perfect, particularly in cold weather when I'm wearing bulky clothing.

i have a slightly shortened Speedfeed stock (without the shell holder - Speedfeed II?) that came on my 870P.

im impressed with not just the quality of it, but the fact that its actually quite slim/light compared to a lot of aftermarket stocks. so not only is it better built/more robust than most cheap synthetic stocks, they achieved this without any additional weight/bulk. the forend is great too.

That's helpful info, thanks guys. Out of curiosity what is the LOP on a stock Remington synthetic? I'm stuck between the Speed Feed I for the ammo storage, or the Hogue short LOP because it looks short and comfy. This is going on my 8.5 grizz when it arrives BTW, but I want to choose carefully as it may end up on my 870 at some point.

I have the SpeedFeed on my 590 as well, it gets used for Shooting games, and I find it difficult to get the shells out of the stock with any consistency. I use them more for back up ammo, in case I run out, which has happened, LOL!

In any defense scenario, I think if I went through 8+1, then depleted my side saddle, and had to count on rounds in the Speed Feed Stock.......I would be in a world of Hurt!

I am thinking of replacing my stock with the Knoxx CompStock.......sorry if this was too much of a hijack! Sorry I don't have info on the Rem Stock!

Regular Remington LOP is 14".

I also find the Speedfeed difficult to get shells out of, I found myself loading only two shells into it as otherwise it got to be too much of a hassle.

I swapped my Speedfeed for a 12" LOP Hogue, MAJOR improvement, as well as fitting me better lengthwise the Hogue is shaped better, textured better, and has a much better recoil.

The only real downside is that its pretty thinly built compared to the Speedfeed, you're probably not ever going to have any durability issues with it but the weight difference made my gun feel uncomfortably muzzle heavy.
