A Speedfeed stock came as standard equipment on my 590 Mossberg, and I have been very impressed with it's quality and toughness, but nothing in life is perfect and that goes with the Speedfeed stock as well. I was concerned that the springs from the shell holders were going to damage the backside of the recoil pad which does not have hard backing, so I put a thin stainless steel spacer in to protect the pad, which left a gap, so I put a wrap of electrical tape around the space. That worked. I found that the spring pressure against the shells is quite strong. This is good in that it holds the shells securely, but it makes removal of shells difficult, particularly 3" shells, and over time shells with conventional folded crimps tends to open up, spilling shot and filler. The solution is to just use the shell holder for 2.75" shells, or just hold a single 3" shell in each recess, and choose shells with welded crimps or slugs.
One other problem is that these stocks are designed with a 14" LOP, which for me is a bit long. I have Speedfeed's Youth stock on order, but it doesn't have the shell holder. The Youth stock has a 13" LOP and I am installing a sling plate between the stock and the receiver which should bring it to 13.25". That should be just about perfect, particularly in cold weather when I'm wearing bulky clothing.
