Speer 308 calibre 125gr TNT

I've shot three coyotes with them in a 308. After three massively damaged hides I set them aside and stuck with my 22-250

Although I have never done it, that is exactly what I would expect to happen. Why not just use a good deer load in the .308? It will likely do less hide damage, and will certainly kill coyotes.

I found these to be absolute lasers in my .308 out to ~400m.
I can't say I'd recommend any TNT rounds on anything you plan on "using" after the fact. If you just want o make 'em dead ok but otherwise........

Yeah messy is the term I would use. If you are looking for dead coyotes these are great, if you are looking to collect pelts, maybe not so much.
I'm guessing they will be great, then.

Dunno if I know anybody around here that has actually skinned a coyote, let alone ever got any money for one. Half the guys I know leave them where they drop, because crows gotta eat too. The other half find the nearest gully, and let gravity do the rest.

I get that for sure, but if you can connect with a local trapper, you might make a few bucks if you share the wealth. I am a licensed trapper, but currently do not have a good set up for putting up any fur, so a buddy of mine takes all the coyotes I shoot and we split the earnings. Some coyotes draw over $100, some as high as $150, get a few coyotes over the course of the winter and suddenly your ammo is paid for, maybe even a little gas money.

See, that's the basis of this whole difference in attitudes.

It doesn't get all that cold here in winter. Not much gets a decent layer of fur on it. What little does, tends to become either sun bleached from sitting out keeping warm, or starts blowing coat from fleas or mange fairly quickly.
Nobody I know, traps, unless it's in relation to managing predators which are killing or harassing livestock.

So, the primary purpose and value of shooting a coyote around here, is to end up with a dead coyote.

I have a pretty good idea how much work goes in to doing a proper job on a hide. And I have a pretty solid idea of how little I know about being able to choose which hides to put the work in to.

I plan on checking those TNT 125's out.
