Has anyone tried this? Reason I ask is because my 602 shoots flat based bullets more accurately than boat-tails with the Hornady 300 gr RN being perfect. The GS is a flat based spitzer so was hoping to extend reach without losing much accuracy. All opinions appreciated, Thanx.

I had good luck with the 285 gr Grand Slams in my .375 Ultra. I think I chrongraphed them at about 2750 fps, and if I recall correctly they shot quite well.

If the Hornady's shoot well in your rifle I'd just use them.

Savage fan,
The Speers shot OK in my CZ, but not as well as the Hornady 300 gr.roundnose. They were better than a lot of others though. It doesn't matter because the 270 and 300 gr TSXs outshoot both. I use the Hornadys for practice. My CZ has a long throat, and those bullets that reach the lands do well. Those that don't............put it this way, I've got a pile of different .375 bullets to try in my next one.

No problem. The load that I shoot the most of is 77 grains of 760 or H414. Different lots burn faster or slower so sometimes 78 grains works better. When I could still get 47SL it took 78grs. This is the same load with both the 270 and 300 grain TSXs, the 300 Roundnose and the 300 grain Hornady solid. I've given up trying to figure out how that works. I'm just happy that I don't have to weigh the charges.
74-75 grains of RL15 works with the 270 TSX and is good for some extra speed. I haven't tried it with the 300 TSXs because by the book it is 100 fps slower so why bother.
I shot 75 grains of IMR 4350 with the various 300s, it was Ok but not any better than the H414/760 load.
The CZs and Brnos have a long magazine so you have a lot of flexibility with COL. 3.720" with either of the TSXs puts me 30 Thou off the lands. They have the same nose, so once you've established the length to lands with one bullet it is the same for the other.

Awesome Dogleg, our guns must be very similar, 75g IMR is what I use on the 300 hornady RN for 3/8" at 100. My COAL is SAAMI plus .040". Can't wait to try the Barnes now, darned work gets in the way of everything.

My roundnose length is SAAMI plus .060, so our chambers seem similar. I think they are throated for the 300 roundnose.
74 grains of IMR 4350 was Elmer Keiths old load.
