Speer's newest big game bullet -- the Deep Curl, a true bonded core!

IMO, using same weight bullets, the flat bases yielded closer bullet muzzle-velocities than boat-tails (lower standard deviation).
But then again, the boat-tails had no cannelure for crimping.

there was a write up on bullet accuracy where they chewed up the nose/tail of bullets and compared. they found tail was the bigger factor, most boattails require a finer degree of accuracy when manufactured, and also had less bearing surface they found for most shooting at closer ranges ie under 500 metres the flat base was better.

No, it never has been. The core is poured into the jackets, but not actually bonded, like an Accubond, or A-Frame.

As good a game bullet as the they are, I have recovered lots of them from big game that have had cores either slipped or separated. Lots of other people have, as well.

I knew that they were a mainstay for you Ted but I never heard you say that before. I thought you guys were just lucky up there in the Yukon to never have any come apart. I know they kill effectively for you - just didn't know they were coming apart doing it. That's consistent with this report from a fellow CGN member who took a moose with it from his 358Norma in Sept 09 - read from section 4 update on - http://35cal.com/35bullet_study/35bullet_study1.html

They seem to be fine at impact velocities less than 2500 - 2600 fps. Started out at 28-2900 fps in the 358 Norma Mag, the 250 spitzer works just fine at 2-300 yds. Whack something at 20, however, and that is when we see them come apart. Same thing with 150 spitzers in the 270 Win.

Also, I thinkthat the slow 1:16 twist in most of the 35 cal rifles I have seen them used in, is much easier on bullets than 1:10 and 1:12 twists.

This should all be moot with the new bullet.

I used the 165 gr hotcore in a 30-06 when I started handloading and killed lots of deer with that combo. I found the speer hotcore holds together a bit better than hornady's and alot better than sierra's.

I doubt I would run out and buy these, there are just so many premium's that are excellent that I already have great loads for. Sort of a why bother thing for me, the ship has sort of sailed for me, I will stick with my TSX's first and accubond's second.
