Wonder if you guys know if this will work...

I'd like to put a Spike's Tactical fake can on an XCR (I bought it but it hasn't arrived yet), just to get the shorter barreled look, and yeah, ok... piss off the Fudds in my family. :)

Problem is, I don't have the rifle yet, don't quite get how these fake cans mount, and don't know what the XCR barrel in 7.62 is threaded at (if at all).

Also, the Spike's site says it will only work on 5.56 and smaller, any chance I can drill the front out to use with 7.62?

Advice is appreciated, thanks!

Don't the Spikes fake cans just screw on the end? How would that make the barrel look shorter?

I see no reason you couldn't bore it out to 7.62 size.

It depends on which can you ordered. The ones designed to sleeve over the bbl will only fit barrels whose outer diameter is less than the can's bore. It also needs to be the right thread, though if there is enough meat, you could have it re-threaded larger.

With a lathe, almost anything is possible...

I may be incorrect, but aren't XCR flash hiders pinned and welded? Can be done, just not as easy as unscrewing it.

I find it much easier (in this case) to use a diamond burr on a rotary tool to grind out the pin & weld. It's a long process, but at least it works and doesn't break end mills.

Some of the Spikes fake cans go over the barrel and thread on at the tip. Making it more like a barrel shroud, you know the thing that goes up. They also make some that are extensions.

:DThis one in 223, 1/2x28 thread.
