I had a brief go of one of these south of the border and really liked it. I have a CZ75 Tactical Sport and a IMI Baby Eagle both in 9mm, and wondered if anyone owned a Sphinx for their comment on reliability / availability of spares etc.

Does anyone have one of these in 9mm?

I've only heard good things. Calgary Shooting Centre has them. So far I've only seen the compact models in Canada. I would personally prefer the standard size, full steel models.

I've read a lot of great things about them but have never seen one live. They're swiss CZ 75 clones. From what I've seen pricewise, if you think Tanfoglios are expensive, don't even look at sphinx :)

I tought I had read a while ago that DoubleTap was the Canadian retailer but they don't seem to carry them right now..?

I really want one. From what I understand (only anecdotal evidence) they are of amazing quality and reliability. Not sure on parts availability.

I've read that sphinx pistols have more in common with Tanfoglios than CZ. As far as parts availability goes, I guess it will all depends on the official distributor... For the parts that are compatible between the 2 brands, tanfo seems to be well represented.

handled and shot one and found it clunky feeling. Well put together and fit, but i'd rather buy a CZ. If you like sig and want something different, that's sorta what it felt like but with more sharp edges.

There are shooters in Switzerland that have 100000 rounds through their Sphinx's with only a spring change. They are more money than CZ's but if you want a gun that doesn't break this is it....but you pay for the higher durability.

The Sphinx is miles ahead of any of the other CZ_Tanfo style gun. I just got a stock 2 extreme (2500$ +++ production gun) and was very disappointed with the overall finish and QC. The safeties are improperly fitted, slide lock looks bent... the finish is a real pain in the ass to clean. CRAFM is bringing in a lot of Sphinx production pistols with factory trigger jobs and FO sights,. They look really tight!!! I will most likely sell my Tanfo and get a Sphinx when they arrive. I think the +- 1500$ pricetag is a bargain compared to the competition.

I have seen great variance with Tanfo's, with some of the older versions being real works of art, and some really lacking. I shall keep my eye open for full size Sphinx in 9mm, either pre-owned or new. For sub $2000 I think it has the edge over SIG X5 and I already shoot a CZ-75TS so it should be close in the feel I think.

Double Tap were importing direct as far as I know. As the guns were fairly high end, the volumes imported were likely low.
I believe that in the US, the importer and distributor for Sphinx is Kriss, and I suspect that CSC were getting them through them.

Sphinx and Kriss are owned by the same Swiss company. The current Canadian distributor is North Sylva.
The full sized guns should start appearing in 2015, the race guns are likely another year out.

I have the compact with the threaded barrel.
The cap seems to be on really tight..... Question is...... Counter clockwise to loosen or clockwise.....some manufacturers reverse the threads on the barrels and caps.... . Anybody know what Sphinx does?
