Hi Folks, My buddy wants to sell a sporter Enfield that he has had for 30+ years. I am interested but not sure what they would be worth.
Any help and info would be appreciated.
Its a Parker Hale sporter from a 1942 No4 mark1* Long Branch. it has a old 2.5X bushnell scope.

This Parker Hale sporter is one of the nicer ones commercially made. With a clean, almost new bore (hoping that the picture only shows a bore needing cleaning, not some pitting), it should get more than $300. Is the scope mount also an original Parker-Hale?

The only part of it that is a Lee-Enfield is the receiver. And that has been permanently bubba'd. I'd be thinking over $300 too. Highly unlikely to have headspace issues. PH knew what they were doing. I'd put the scope on a shotgun, but it'd do for anything. Isn't high end in any way.

It would be less than the modern "pretty" used hunting rifles, but still valuable and still popular. If condition near excellent, $300 with or without that scope.

You would do well to get $350 out of it. These are fine rifles but under appreciated by the hunting world in general. Looks like original PH rings and base(over $100 value), scope isn't high end but decent quality Japanese made Bushnell. A great rifle capable of upending anything on this continent without pounding recoil or blinding muzzle flash. And it is not "bubba'd", that is a term for basement mutilation of military rifles. For all intents this is a factory sporter.

if the scope mount is also parker hale the package is worth easily $400, that particular model called a custom no.4 is the rarest and most deluxe model that PH made. scope is not of much value
tell your buddy I would give him $400 if you do not buy it

well the barrel is also lee-enfield, along with almost all the other parts, so above post is wrong.

that is one of the nicer sporters, not a bubba sporterized rifle.

people are paying a preimum for parker hale sporters so I can see you getting $300 for it without too much of a problem.

and I would listen to xcaribooer, he's had a few of these parker hales.

The complete barrelled action is a Lee Enfield, albeit altered for sporting purposes. The stocks are no doubt ones made by Sile in Italy.
The absolute worst headspace I have ever seen on any rifle was on a Parker Hale sported .303, which they had rebarrelled with a commercial barrel. Yes, it was a PH job, not an issue barrel. Separations on first firing. This was not an incorrect bolthead issue. The headspace was so bad that the barrel had to be set back and the chamber recut.

Their recoil pads seemed to go soft. Looks like this one needs replacing as well. No big deal. This one has the site hood still, has a shortened mag (7 round?), is the rare #4 in the Custom offering, which was the best. The sling and scope probably aren't worth much, but if the mount and rings are original, it is worth probably in the $400 range or up, depending on how bad a Canadian wants one that was originally a Longbranch.

The barrel is a new Parker-Hale one.
In the days, it was never considered as a bubba'd but as a nice little hunting rifle. I totally agree with the 300.00 $ / 350.00 $ value, and the fact it's a LB can bring a little more for some. And if the mount is complete, it should sell around 350.000$ / 400.00 $ around here.
