sportered P-14, whats this notch for?

Just curious, why this cut out at the back of the action?

Also, did you know that mauser bottom metal is very close to fitting a P-14?





Im kinda half thinking about using the mauser mag and getting a mauser stock to mount this P-14 in, thus getting rid of its pot belly.

its the way they were built, originally. Eventually they dropped it as a not required machining step for the receivers. - dan
