Hi,
I wasn't sure I should post this in the Milsurp forum, figured I'd start here...
I have an Eddystone "U.S. Model of 1917" rifle, restocked and ears lopped off. I got it as a last minute "oh crap, PA doesn't allow semi-auto's for deer hunting" rifle. I have put probably less than a box of ammo through it. It is now taking up space in my safe and I would like to get rid of it.
I am by no means a gun expert and need some help assessing this firearm before I even consider passing it along. I am aware of this Eddystone/receiver cracking saga. What concerns me is that the barrel on this gun is stamped with an R and has a dovetail slot for a rear sight. Also, there is obvious filling and welding around the receiver area. What I am unaware of is if this welding job was done to repair the receiver after it cracked from having the barrel replaced, or if it is just a sloppy job at filling some previously machined holes.
I have inserted an image, your comments are appreciated.
