Ontario Rifle Association – Sporting Rifle Shoot 16 July DND Winona (near Hamilton)

This is a casual competition. Bring out that rifle you never get around to shooting. I notice that older shooters dig out Mausers, K31s and Lee Enfields and the younger shooters bring AR-15s. The ARs seem to be perfect for the kids, too. Adjustable butt and no recoil.

We will shoot 3 10-shot shoots at each of 100, 200 and 300 yards. Shoots consist of Deliberate (10 shots in 10 minutes) Snap (10 4 second exposures) and a Mover (1 shot per 10 exposures. Target walks about 15 feet).

100 yards is shot standing. At 200 and 300 we shoot prone and can rest the rifle on out shooting bag.

This range has 30 lanes, but only 5 are approved for calibers bigger than 223. We will squad 2 shooters per target (one shoots while the other marks the target). This means we can only accommodate 10 “big guns”. We already have 12 registrations for big guns. We will accept more registrations until 12 July, and then we will have a draw for the 10 positions. If you have a 223, you can shoot that if you don’t succeed in the draw.

If you want to shoot with your wife or child, the two of you can enter as a single team, and take turns shooting. If your child or spouse is competent, you can both enter and I can squad you side by side, so you can coach each other during the shoots.

Entry is paid at the gate. $20 for ORA members and $60 for non-members. Be there by 7:45 to pay and help set up. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

Please email me if you want to shoot on July 16, so I can register you and assign a target for you. I need to know your name, if you want to shoot a big caliber and if you have a 223 if you don’t win a target in the draw.
