Anyone interested in meeting up to teach a newbi the ins and outs of spot and stalking black bears?
Yes I can watch youtube, yes I can read and educate myself.
Really just looking to meet people with the same interests and make new friends.

I live in the Calgary area and will be going out during the spring season to spot and stalk bear.
I come from a non hunting family and am learning as I go.
These are skills that I want to learn so that I can teach my twin boys when the time comes.

PM me if interested,
Have a great day

Tony.

Good luck on your free guided hunt...

I've taken out dozens of new hunters for bear hunts, it's always a good time. I've got a new bear hunter already lined up to go this spring.

Spring bear hunting in western Canada can be a great, leisurely, low pressure hunt with high chance of success. That you want to learn hunting knowledge to start a new family activity and pass it on to your children is very admirable. Passing on knowledge is an important aspect of the hunting tradition.

Hope you find someone nearby to help you out. I would ignore the inevitable negative comments from some of the more miserable CGN members, some of them seem to just skulk around waiting to see if they can bring dark clouds to what should be a positive thread.

There is a Podcast based out of Calgary that should have some good info on it. https:/ /highlanderhunting.podbean.com
You could try reaching out to them personally and see where that leads.

Don't be discouraged by people thinking you are looking for hand outs, some hunter who understand the importance of recruitment is bound to help out... As I guy who took up hunting in his 30's, I can relate.

Good luck on your free guided hunt...

See, the thing is.
I am going to go regardless of wether I find someone to hunt with or not,
The purpose of this post is to learn from other people, to continue a great tradition
and to incorporate it into my families traditions.
Can you think of a more positive way to go about it?

No dark rain clouds here... I also have taken dozens of young and new hunters out for bears, gratis... Gatehouse... likely more than you will for the rest of your hunting life... but there is some relational basis and/or "buy-in/commitment" on their part... they show in a demonstrable way that they really want it and are really up for it... not these constant faceless online posts that ask for free hunts like the are ordering fast food at a drive-thru window, generally with no idea (and often, no concern) for the kind of cost and energy they are requesting of a stranger. IME, low buy-in = a recipe for disappointment.

It is just an opinion... the internet is full of them... such as your own.

No offense to you in the least, but yes... I can most certainly think of a better way to go about it. Read the post above... then do some studying on your quarry, the habitat they prefer... get on the phone to the MNR, forestry companies etc... speak to their biologist about where the highest concentrations of bears are, ask to speak to their truckers, and field officers, gather as much info as you can relating to location and timing... then gather together your gear and get out and scout and hunt... earn your chops so to speak... you can do it, it just takes time and commitment. When you accomplish your goal, it will be far more satisfying knowing that you got it done yourself, rather than being led by the hand, not that being led by the hand is a bad thing... but it should start with a relationship first in my opinion. Good luck either way.

Like I said. Ignore the miserable CGN members. They have the option of not replying, but choose to do so in a negative way. Not worth wasting your time on them.

I can see where you are coming from.
Sounds like you have been burned before.
I dont believe you are the type of person I am looking to meet up with.
I acknowledge that you likely have loads of skills and insite I could learn from
but I am not interested in a Student/master experience.
Simple looking to make friends and learn.
Have a great weekend.
