I've never owned a spotting scope before, now I need to buy one for spotting .22 bullet holes on white targets @ 100 yard, can you recommend one? no more than $200.00 please. Thanks.

Costco online offers a Bushnell Sentry 16-32x 50mm for $99.99 and a Tasco 16-20x80mm for $134.99, incl. shipping in Canada. I have that Bushnell and I can certainly see .223 holes at 100 yards well enough with it.

(If anyone thinks these are two cheap to bother with, they can go to Wholesale Sports and pay $134.99 for the Bushnell or to S.I.R. and pay $149.99 for the Tasco. Plus shipping.)

I don't want to be responsible for this, but, I saw in Princess Auto in Calgary the other day, a power fist sportsman's spotting scope for $23 ! It was vairiable power up to 24x, a 60mm objective, angled eyepiece, and even complete with tripod. I should have bought one just to try it out. For spotting targets it might be alright, I wouldn't take it sheep hunting in the moutains though!

I got a Bushmaster 20-60x60 from CDn Tire recently for $99.99. I'm only using it at 20yrds for spotting .22 holes in black paper, so not sure of abilities to spot at longer ranges.

Tip: a larger objective lense is better for higher magnification because the images will be brighter.
