Hey all. Before someone says use the search feature......

Looking for a spotting scope to use at the range for .17 and up. Also want to get into long range stuff. 1,000 yards and beyond.

What would you guys recommend? From reasonable $$ right up to the good stuff. Might take a while to buy one, but I do believe you get what you pay for.

Can you include a ball park price value for them, too please? Maybe a source.

I just bought a Zeiss Diascope 85 TFL with the 20x60 eyepiece from a shop in Illinois, saved around $1000 buying it down in the US, brought it back with me to save shipping and handling fees (UPS sucks). Great scope, good price considering. Check ebay for a shop from Illinois, I see they still have a couple listed. I got mine for just under $2000 all said and done, duty, shipping to vegas, etc. Cheapest I found in country was 2600 plus the GST and shipping.

I have a Bushnell Spacemaster with two eyepieces. I think they are 10x and 40x. Mine has a short tube with the tripod screw on the side, with a big nut knob. Got rid of that in a hurry. And I use the Shooter's Tripod over whatever came originally. Any spotting scope will get you started, but be prepared for a disappointment if you want to pick out .17 cal holes at 1000yds. That is an impossible request. Not only will the optics be enormous, but you have no control over the weather, mirage or heat shimmer. If you want to see holes at that distance, start shooting F Class on a range with markers. At least they will put an 8" orange plug in the hole.
