This just arrived. I am really pleased with the quality and value for money of my Minox binos that I got from CameralandNY a few years ago so I ordered this 15-30x50mm spotting scope from them.

I haven't taken it outside yet (it was already dark when I picked up the package from the Post Office) and it doesn't come with a tripod but I'm going to the range tomorrow and will report more then, however, first impressions from indoor viewing: on 15x it gives excellent, sharply-focused images of the textured ceiling (vaulted, about 20' high at peak, from about 20' across the room). It's very compact, light, and solidly built with precise, even movement of the focus and magnification adjusters.

This model comes in straight and angled eyepiece versions. I got a straight one because they had demo units for only US$219.99 and I'm cheap. With shipping and a contribution to Canada Revenue Agency to help pay for the salaries of those public servants who provide me with that vital service of collecting contributions to pay the for the salaries of those public servants, it came to about $300 and is certainly more than three times better than the $100 Bushnell Sentry 16-36x50mm it is replacing.

I have the MD50 and use it on the range when sighting in. Very happy with its performance though for strictly range work I could see with going with something larger in both lens and magnification.

That said I do like the compactness and weight and this was a consideration for bringing a spotting scope along when hunting. Price is great for what you get.

It's hard to go wrong with Dog and his crew. They've always treated me very well. Glad to hear that the Minox is feeling good. You'll have to let us know how it works outside when you get a chance.
