Spotting Scope Recomendations

I have a vortex razor that I have no regrets buying. This was a huge upgrade for me after using a cheap Made in China spotting scope for many years. I can't believe I subjected myself looking through a cheap optic for so long. You can spend more, a lot more than the cost of the razor but in my eyes there is a point of diminishing returns.

I have a Celestron Cavalry 25-75x70 I got from CanTire a few years ago. They're out of production but on amazon there are other scopes of Celestron brand that run around $200-ish and up. They make Celestial scopes as well, and I have one of those but at 4-ft long not best for range use ;-) Very good quality for low bucks, which 300 yds would fall under. I can clearly see .223 holes on paper at 200 yds. so prob good at 300?

Hey,

Just looking for recommendations for a decent spotting scope for range use up to a max of 300 yards. What scope you might suggest and price range. Thanks .

I used a Bushnell for years, and then upgraded to a Nikon. If you go the birddwatcher sites, you will see a lot of info on good spotting scopes. - dan

For plus or minus 300yards depending on what caliber you will be shooting, I'd lean to something in the cheaper Vortex line or keep an eye out for an older Bausch&Lomb Elite straight tube 15-45. You can usually find them for well under $300 in good shape. Lots of times guys cheap out on a proper tripod and then complain that the optic isn't up to snuff. Spend some money on a good well built tripod that won't vibrate every time the wind blows. You can even dangle some weight with some paracord down from the head unit to steady it up a bit more.
