I was looking for recommendations for spotting scopes under $500 for target shooting. It would be great to get one of those $1500 ones but I just don't see it happening. It would be nice to be able to see bullet holes out to 300 yards. I am open to anything like Barska, Kowa, Konus, Celestron, Vortex but if you have tried others then I would like to hear about it.

My Konuspot-80 will do the job well enough for how cheap it was. The included "tripod" is useless though. I have to mount it to one of my good photography tripods in order to be useful at longer ranges.

Vortex Nomads were around 300-400 IIRC. They were very good for the money. I own the 20-60 and the only problem is at high mag my tripod is too shaky to take advantage of the clarity.

So which Kowa model is selling for under $500 including the eyepiece?

Don't waste your 500$ on a cheap one.

He's right, make sure you get a good one for your $500.

I suggest you at least windowshop site sponsor CameralandNY. Their site will show you a wide variety at good prices. Unfortunately the exchange rate is against us at present but that means Canadian dealers paid more for their stock and still have to add a margin to cover their costs and profit. Spotting scopes are not export controlled and CameralandNY is happy to ship to Canada.

I like using my spotting scope at 100 yards to see small holes...... :)
I find that if I can make small groups of small holes at 100 yards I'm doing pretty good and also don't have to walk as far to change the targets.

I noticed crappy tires around me had the bushnell elite spotters on clearance a while ago, if you can still find one on sale, that's likely you're best option for a new spotter at that price point....otherwise I'd say save up a few more bucks and shop around the forums for a used model

I spent $500 on a Nikon and it's pretty much junk (it has no ED glass). Had a cheapie Bushnell $100 one before that that's junk too.

Saving up for something like a Bushnell Elite Tactical.

My kind of guy lol Shooting at 200 is a nice challenge but the walks kill me

Someone messaged me about an old Bushnell Spacemaster scope they had been using for decades and recommended it; theirs wasn't for sale. I located one in Victoria for sale, bought it, and had it mailed to me last week. It's over 40 years old, is 15-45x and came with a Slik pistol grip head (that alone is $130 new). I got the whole thing for $100. At full 45x it's awesome. Bought a neoprene tube sock for $18 to store it in and I am set.

For a shooting range I like the idea of this, The 300 yard unit is $349 US and for twice the price you can see to a mile.
Also uses software to do some cool stuff like show your last shot and more.

If I had my own private shooting area this would be great, but at a public range I have seen the way some guys shoot and I would be afraid that the camera wouldn't last long lol

Hey I forgot I also have one of those sitting in a closet with 2 different power eye pieces. They are a fairly decent spotter
