spotting scopes?

It all depends on the ranges you're shooting at. 300yds/good light and less you can easily get away with a cheaper model. Once you start reaching out beyond that you will need more serious glass such as Swarovski or Carl Zeis.
From the looks of your scope choice, you understand the value of decent sharpness and contrast. Make your choice from there. bearhunter

I wish I could find a m49 spotting scope

I am looking at a Swarovski but putting a $2000 spotting scope in a drag bag scares me

I use a Kowa TSN 820 great optics and optical clarity is phenomenal altough a composite body I have had no problems carrying it in my ruck sack on many ocassions

Bushnell Spacemaster 15-45 x 50

Collapses down to 8" long, very lite, and "good" optics. It fits in my range bag - standing up.

Not german optics, but at $199 - affordable.

Here's mine, a Bosch ans Laumb 1200mm lens with a 30X eyepiece.
it effectivly gives the lens 40X.
The little Busnell4X on top is to spot the target, then focus the main scope.
Freeland bipod stand.
This one can spot bullet strikes at 1K.

Kowa TSN-1, 22X WA eye piece. I can see 9 targets wide at 1000 yards. The great advantage of seeing 9 targets, is you get to use all this information to help you dope the wind. Angled scopes help when shooting prone to avoid straining out of position to see the target.
Syxx15 picked up a Konus last year at Camp Perry for around $200 US, that is just a clear as my Kowa at about 1/2 the weight and 1/4 the price. For $200, I may look into one for my daughter.

Does anyone know of a Konus dealer in Canada, preferably one who supports CGN. I am looking for an entry level spotting scope.

Thanks,
