Results

To save me a lot of typing, here's a pic of the results sheet.

As you can see, (600 & 1000 especially) we had some good tricky fishtailing tail winds mixed in with full value 3 and 9 oclock wind, but for once.... no rain! Saturday had higher winds but more speady direction wise. Sunday, was just plain tricky, fast switches. You would watch as it was your turn to shoot, put on your wind, and from the time it takes to get behind the rifle, the wind would change up to two times and if you saw it in your scope, you could just hold off, changing to fast to click. It was a hoot!

Winds Sat from 9 to 5 was
SE 19
SE 22
SE 22
SE 26
SE 31
SE 31
SE 31

SE 35

Wind Sun from 9 to 4 was

Mike, I actually talked to Brian and his score were on the card backwards, so his true 800 yd score is really his 1000 on the results sheet (79) and his 1000 score is in the 800 column (55). He had loaded down his rounds and they shot great out to 800 yds, but not enough for the 9 and 1000. He tried some 72 IVI again after his relay and fired a 69 I think. Yes, Brian does very well with his 308 off a pod, wish I had his eyes! Little bugger can see the smaller sized spotting disk at 1000 yds with his own eyes.... and he is a really good shooter and fun to shoot with...

Also my score at 1000 is way wrong! I fired a 63-4v so 67, not a 83!!! Only way I can figure out how it got to 83 would be counting TR style (-12) and using 90-12+4=82??? instead of 75-12+4=67!!

It is not matter, it was still mine with a 222 LR and and 376 overall. BW was only 14 points behind me. My 1000 was ok but not great, but good for the winds we had.

It just blows me away, that rifle has no throat left in it whatsoever but somehow that little bugger has eyes like an eagle and can see wind that most miss and still make the shot with a rifle that is coming apart at the seams...I can't wait until Gaillard rebarrels that rifle.

Went out for the first time and had a blast. Everyone accomodating and more than gracious. Thank You ( Damn that bloody wind)

Was the f-class shooting on the reduced 1/2 MOA veebull? I'm beginning to get curious as to how the 1/2 minute V is being adopted across Canada and what the other Provincial Associations are thinking about it... well the shooters shooting at least.

No, standard DCRA targets, 1 MOA V Bulls are used at the SPRA matches, at least until all of these are shot up. There is a saying out west, if you can shoot Nokomis, you can shoot anywhere. The wind is always blowing and it is either raining on ya or so hot you can't hardly see the target for mirage, with usually a fishtailing tail wind or a head wind in your face. Ask some of the boys in Ottawa about this range John (Stan Frost, Gord Hulbert, Glen Taylor, Earl Brown, Ron Dawson, John Chapman, etc.) in Aug. At 1000 for the Vic Day match, we had approx 8 MOA of wind if you missed the switch and that is with a 6mm 105g at 3000+, more like 16 MOA with a 308 & 155's or a 223 & 80's. I saw Stan put on 6 MOA more left on his 223 and still get a Outer on the right, just on the board... should have been more like 10 MOA left eh Stan... It is very tricky.

Was out to a match at the APRA too a few weeks before, same deal, std targets, 1 MOA V bulls there too.

We will be using 1/2 MOA V bulls for the Driller's match in Aug John, actually 300m DCRA target at 600 yds(5 rounds for grp and score, unmarked), and then 400yd DCRA target at 800, and a 500yd DCRA target at 1000 for score. Should be a hoot!

Thanks for the info Keith... wow that would have been an interesting shoot. I love shooting in the rain or at least I'm trying to convince my mind of it over the last couple years. Seemed everytime an Ottawa shoot came up odds were it was gonna rain. I've had some nice days there too though along with the wild ones. I think Connaught is a pretty honest range overall. Dunno about this berm thing. I might be singing a different tune. Now Mons well that place is a new game every time you shoot it and varies on some of the firing points. You take what you get and do the best you can. We've had a few matches in Ottawa on the 1/2 and some of us have been experimenting in practices with a new centre that can be stapled on our existing targets. Norm Barber was tasked to come up with a replacement centre. He did a good job from what I can see and having shot on it. Tough little bugger to catch sometimes. Other times it's fine.

Here's another question. How do you feel about shooting on a white veebull? I'd be curious as to how the TR folks out west view this aspect and naturally what the F-ers think. I'm even wondering if they'd even notice it (TR). The ones Norm made up are white with a black centre around them and registration marks (fine lines) running throught the centre outwards to the edges so these faces can be lined up quickly and perfectly. Scoped you can see these centres nicely. Haven't had an extremely miragey day so I don't know at this point what it looks like bouncing around but that day is coming I'm sure.

Hope you have a great shooting season in 2007 Keith.
jk

John, I'd love a white center and I agree, the TRs probably can not see it anyways and if they can, it is just another circle for them to line up on eh!

John, can you send a couple of thoses centers out to me? I'll email you may address later, just got a call from work! Later...k
